With fighters pulling out of fights now an official joke, should ufc have fighters on deck?

They do this anyway, but guys like Joe Soto and Al Laquinta are guys barely ranked when they stepped in.

I think they should have a guy at least ranked in the top ten ready to step in if a big fight gets ruined by some1 getting injured.

For example if DC gets injured vs Stipe, have mark hunt ready to step in for example.

An alternate should be paid, trained, and make weight for main and co-main events. It’s not like the UFC doesn’t have the cash.

You forgot we have like 8 weight classes.

So either we have one weight class per event or we need more.

One alternate per fight/weight class per event or are we just talking about main event, ppv fights?

Having top ten fighters train up to be alternates sounds like a great way to bring divisions to a screeching halt even moreso than they are already. What happens when the alternate doesn't fight? Go through yet another training camp? No thanks.

Sure. But how much do you pay a guy to train for a fight that may never happen? Either you have to overcompensate them or it's not worth their time. They make more by fighting and winning in most cases.

How about this-

If a fight has a backup fighter, and one of the main fighters doesn't make weight, the backup fighter fights instead. And the guy gives up 100% of his fight money to be split between the two guy who fight.

That'll stop this non-weight making BS we've recently seen a surge in.

If the alternate was paid that would be a great idea. The backup fighter is not going to want to have a full training camp for no pay.

If the UFC doesn't want to pay an alternate fighter, the other option is to have another closely ranked bout on the card. For example, if the UFC booked Curtis Blaydes vs. Overeem on the same card as DC/Stipe.

Given how things have been lately they'd need an alternate for the alternate when the first alternate misses weight.

Imagine spending all that money on a training camp for the tiny chance you actually end up fighting not to mention imagine trying to train like a champion with a tiny chance of fighting.A lot of reasons this is a horrible idea.Only thing like this that makes sense is having another fight in that weight class near the same ranking on the card as a backup.

They've done this quietly before. I don't know wjawthe success rate is, but they are aware of it

Just have two contenders in the same division as the main scheduled on the card already and make part of the fight contract that theyre obligated to step up and fill in if the main event needs them

And they'll eventually be fighting for the alternate interim title.

Hmm.

Maybe give a portion of the original fighters pay if he needs to step in along with the pay the sub already gets.

So say fighter A is being paid 1 mil for the fight. his sub is being paid 250 thousand to act as a sub.

If fighter A drops out, a quarter of his pay goes to his sub. Then his sub will make 500 thousand for stepping in and fighter A will still walk away with 750 thousand. Or even give the sub half and he gets the 750 while the guy who dropped out gets only 500 thousand.

Idk

Per fight but that might not be possible.

I guess only main events or title fights. Any event where someone pulling out is a disaster such as khabib vs tony. However in that case the sub (max) pulled out too

So all 3 fighters have to train and gameplan for 2 different opponents?

Wouldn't work
