Alright, so why when Jose Aldo wanted to go up and fight Anthony Pettis (after numerous title defences and dominant performances), after pretty much cleaning out his division, he was told "oh, you'll have to stay at 155 permanently and you'll have to vacate the belt?"
If Anderson Silva had beat James Irvin, and then said, "you know what I'll fight Forrest next actually, and after that, I might fight Rashad or perhaps Rampage" - you think Dana would just let his MW belt sit there undefended? Nope, he most probably would have stripped him.
One fight outside your division, for a shot at another title (RDA fight) is fine with me. RDA drops out, that's not your fault. Then you lose to his replacement, and you now are fighting fit to fight again but not to defend your belt? To me, you cannot have 2 fights in 7 months both 2 weights above your division in which you are champion, and not defend the title - if so, you must give up the belt, you're way up at 170 which is 25lbs higher than your division, this is just silly and confusing to me!
