Should Baseball Ban Smokeless /Chewing Tobacco?

For the numbnuts: This means no tobacco on the field/dugout/clubhouse.
I'm not asking if MLB should start testing for tobacco.

I don't really see any reason why it should be banned.

Nick Swisher would probably have to retire. Dude packs nuclear missiles.

Super kawaii story, son.

The only reason I'd see banning it is for keeping the field/dugout clean from disgusting spit. Who gives a shit about peoples health? If people want to make poor life choices then thats on them.

When I heard that it was not banned, I was actually surprised. When I watched games in the late 80s and 90s, aside from being abundant, chewing tobacco users were obvious with globs in their mouths and spitting. I haven't noticed that in awhile.

As for the issue of banning it, the MLBPA is way too powerful to allow it. It's nice in theory, but the players union won't allow it.

I think would it beneficial to the game. You'll have a lot more pissed off players, which means a lot more brawls. Anything to liven up the game a bit.

Why?
Does the Union not care about the player's health?

If MLB wanted to push it they could argue for no tobacco at the workplace.
Don't some teams have a no alcohol in the clubhouse rule?
Can a player bring a beer out into the dugout?
The Yankees have a no beard (facial hair rule) and that has nothing to do with money or health I'm sure they couild ban chewing tobacco even if it's the teams that do it and not MLB.

There are seeds and gum offered to players with an oral fixation. If these idiots still choose to dip or chew over those offerings, they deserve the health repurcussions.

No. I think its disgusting and dumb but theyre adults and know the risk of doing it. Teams have gum and sunflower seeds as alternatives but if they dont want to use them then thats on them.

Not really, no. Should they prevent prince fielder from stuffing himself with cheeseburgers? Tons of shit is bad for you, dont be a fucking baby.

Yep. The Union is about protecting player's rights. Like it or not, players have a right to chew tobacco.

The funny part about Prince Fielder is that he's a vegetarian.
