I did a similar non sherdog shoop this morning with an old time photo. I turned the whole thing grayscale, then duotone mode in photoshop. Then pick a tannish yellow color and you can play with levels and curves. Then make it all RGB again for the web.

That's an excellent idea. I was either considering dropping it all to grey and recoloring it or just making it all greyscale and pretending it was a B&W Photo. I got tired of messing with the levels and saturation and gave up and posted what I had made, it got the point across.

I just could not get the yellow right, i spent like ten minutes working on it, and this was as close as I got.

When in doubt, I send it through a photo filter like sepia.
