Good stuff bud. The beta of AE now allows 3D assets so it's only a matter of time before it becomes a full feature. Exciting stuff

Davinci Resolve has good 3d capabilities. You can't manipulate indivitual UVs, lines and faces, so you can't extrude or anything like that, but you can bring models into it and add 3d cameras, a renderer and textures/shaders etc. It does not have raytracing either.
Here's a screenshot of the tools menu inside Davinci Resolve, you'll see all the 3d tools on the right hand side of the image:

GIMP is free. I really fucking hate trying to figure it out (I often just default back to MS paint to do quick cleanup and placement stuff), but if you ever wanna tinker around with something, that's a good starting place.
