I've heard of Image Ready but too lazy to web search it. That does gifs doesn't it? My dad used PS CS2 because they were giving it away some years ago. New Photoshop is miles ahead of it. Graphic editing software is making vast changes rapidly.

Yea Image Ready does the gifs. I was pondering buying Photoshop Essentials as it seems pretty capable and I wasn't highly interested in paying $25/mo sub fee.

Finnagle a .edu eMail account. Sometimes you can get it for $10. Call them up and talk to them. I called them and they seemed so eager to make a sale. Maybe the people on the phone get commission.
