Shoegaze... is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterised by its aethereal mixture of obscured vocals, distortion, guitar pedal effects, feedback and overwhelming volume. The sound originally emerged in Ireland and the United Kingdom during the late 1980s among neo-psychedelic groups who usually stood motionless, staring down during live performances in a detached, non-confrontational state.

Twee Pop is a subgenre of Indie Pop that derives its name from the 'twee' aesthetic, described as being 'excessively or affectedly quaint, pretty, or sentimental.' The genre is typically marked by stylistic influences from Shoegaze, Jangle Pop and related forms of guitar-based alternative music, with vocal, lyrical, and melodic approaches emphasising innocence, naïvety or nostalgia, often influenced by Bubblegum Pop. Soft vocal styles and male-female harmonies are often employed, and arrangements are frequently accented by keyboards, synthesizers, or stringed instruments.

The genre emerged in the 1980s in the United Kingdom and United States and further developed during the 1990s and 2000s.

Not-infrequently blurred into dream pop or perhaps punk on the other side imo. As we are getting into the gloomy, damp, dark autumn now I though it was time for this thread. There doesn't seem to have been one on this genre for a while. I'll get things rolling:

Traitr's are an excellent post-punk and darkwave band. Is that adjacent enough for you? Not a big shoegaze fan and twee pop never heard of it.

Even tho they leaned slightly more into Grunge; Swervedriver is a bloody fantastic mix of heavier rock and the Shoegaze aesthetic. Most notably on their first two albums.

Every Swervedriver album in the band's own words | Louder

There probably aren't going to be a lot of bands from south California ITT, but Mazzy Star do feature Colm Ó Cíosóig, formerly of My Bloody Valentine on drums now, although not not on this record, he joined after, and William Reid of the Jesus and Mary Chain and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star were together for a while.

I suppose the director of this video was a Depeche Mode fan.

Deerhunter at their peak incorporated a lot of shoegaze sounds with post punk and other genres in a unique way.
