Shoe Brands that were popular back in the 80s and 90s that you wore as a kid

We were very poor until really after I graduated High School, and I can only really only remember two pairs of shoes that weren't Kmart/Payless. I had a pair of the LA Lights my parents somehow came up with the money for? I was like 7 or 8 and just remember we went to the shoe store, the guy brought them out to try on, and they said I could get them. It must have been when they first hit because I remember I went to my one and only weekend "Scout Camp" the next day, and anyone I met that weekend acted like I was wearing futuristic alien technology and I felt like the coolest kid in the world.

Then there was the only pair of Nike's my parents got me when I was 12-13? I always wanted a pair, and I could never get them.

They resembled these and I thought they were cool as hell. It's funny because it's just a "brand" and not even a high end one, but when I finally got a job and started buying my own things, I felt like "You can afford Nike, you're doing ok.." and as corny as it is all these years later, there is still a small part of me that gets that feeling roughly 20 years later after getting that first pair. lol

I remember getting the black payless mid tops that looked like Reeboks

This thread makes me feel super nostalgic. When are Soap shoes getting a resurgence in popularity?

Don't know in America but Fila was pretty big over here in Europe...now I don't even remember the last time I saw somebody with Fila shoes.

Looking through this thread brings a tear to my eye, I had forgotten all about Avia and Roos, a friend had a pair of Pony, and I had a couple of pairs of Fila shoes

Troops were huge when I was in junior high in the late 80's, all the young drug dealers and children of dealers wore them

Saw allot of young bucks at the YMCA wearing these during the 90s.
I used to drop off my nephew there and we would always laugh at the sight of those.

They actually make you run faster especially if you stick your tongue out.

I grew up in a black neighborhood in the 80s. Sneakers were life, and kept you in the cool crowd. If you wore skips, you could get your ass whooped.
I wore shell top Adidas, suede pumas, Stan Smith Adidas, old school Nike’s. Avia 830s were our team high tops.
Anyone remember Ellesse? Kind of like tennis KSwiss. Lottos? Cheap soccer shoes that you could change the emblem colors. Etonic running shoes? Brooks?

I remember back in the day there was some brand of shoes called Stadia/Stadium Club? So of course, my parents got me a pair as a little kid. The sole fucking fell off one of those shoes after a couple of days, and that convinced my dad to buy me some Jordan's. wuwut
