Sherdog POTWR: Round 2: The Debate

Status
Not open for further replies.
@Octavian @Cmart @Zankou have been around longer and @Ruprecht may have been as well. Maybe that @drj guy don't know how I don't know him.

The first time I lurked on SD, IIRC it was like a messy one pager and I remember a post saying "fuck randleman he got killed by the big cat Tom Erickson, Bass is gonna kill him".

This has been my only account. I joined just before they switched over from the blue colour scheme. Although I'd lurked for ages without posting after finding my way here from Supergreg highlight videos I'd downloaded.

When did you find the WR, and what led you here?

Well I have to say I want to @Jack V Savage free to roam and rustle so not sure I want to confine him to the White House

Ok for the next three hours the liberal that wants to call itself conservative wing of sherdog is putting its full cuckservative support behind merkal, I mean @JDragon.

Trump likes merkal BTW.

I am afraid that you are mistaken about @JDragon about the Mad Cow Merkel (MCM).

He isn't pro-Mad Cow and has been very critical of this clusterf**k of a crisis management in Germany.

Don't believe the Hans Leaks, the haters and the demagogs. You know how politics are and being elected is well within Jdragon's reach --> his opponents are getting desperate.

@JDragon : it might be time to start coining "Mad Cow" extensively, as implicitely agreed upon. You being associated with her has become a major image issue for your campaign. I have already pledged you my vote so as a Jdragonite, I advise you to start coining.

They'd only just made the War Room not long before I joined. It was mostly neocon jingoism, 9/11 conspiracy theories and anti-christian ranting.
I joined mostly to argue about the Iraq war and 2004 US election. People on the internet were WRONG dammnit! Can't remember exactly what was posted that made me join.
Vaguely remember it being some flag waving, U.S.A. bullshit about Iraq and Iran that ignored history, facts and logic.

Darwin is actually quite brilliant. He was a social democrat for a long time and then I don't know what happened. He went full blown libertariatard. He is still one smart cat, he is on my FB actually. A lot of those guys are. We were all part of a fight camp at mmaplaground (ruprecht and Sophie are two guys still around that were on it as well, same with Octavian). N13 was a weirdo.

Would have like to see you interact with EEG, anarchist and very smart, but in an accessible and very funny way, him and workers united used to get into and it was hysterical.

Someone--might have been you--linked me to some of EEG's stuff, and I liked it. But you can't predict how you'll mix with someone. Lots of posters here you wouldn't think I'd get along with that I do, and others you'd expect me to that I don't. I think the biggest factor is how threatened people are by intelligent disagreement.

I'd be curious to know how a respected social Democrat could become an Austrian cultist. I know smart people whose first exposure to economics thinking was Austrianism and were devoted followers of that until getting better educated, but I've never seen anyone go the other way.

You forgot happeh, n13, lubaslonge, EEG, gBjj, TQM, Darwinist, happeh, Russian thug (or nonmjewish non Russian thug, as Nicky used to call him), TB13, the mmman, libero, kingsnake, title fight, brat (fucking brat), fulleren, well rounded, and of course polynikes, and others of course. Old school wr mother fuckers.

Das Uberdog, Massgrunt and Mens Rea were other regulars from back then.
Although the War Room was pretty insular. Magic Man and ShidokanArtist were the most prolific accounts on the site from memory.

Interesting that I'm now one of the elder statesmen here. There's probably some kids on here whose birth date came after my join date.
Anyway, I haven't been following this election. I have declined to run -- too many skeletons in my closet, too many blue dresses in storage waiting to be scraped for DNA samples, too many rivals who conveniently "e-suicided" along the way. Who's the frontrunner? I may have to look into endorsing at some point, considering my Kissinger-esque status.

You may have been pro @panamaican in a prev incarnation but now that you are on the trump train, @Palis is def your man.

@Lead can Cmart vote, not sure the rules but he is old as dirt around here.

Yea. He was on the list right off the bat. You can view the list right under the OP.

You would like EEG biting wit that would sting but never held a grudge and first instinct was polite conversation. I can't explain it for Darwin, I still have great respect for him but some kind of Stockholm syndrome kidnapping must have happened.

Didn't he switch from being Pride over UFC to UFC over Pride at the same time, and incorporate Icelandic pagan society as some sort of Austrian ideal?

Yeah it started just before I came as well, really just to get all the arguments about the Iraq war out of the OT forums.

Yeah pretty sure he went pro Dana, I was pro dana at the time as well. But I was also a tad more libertarian then as well.

As of this point in time I am temporarily unendorsing @JDragon. His insult to American has offended this Canadian, and if he is against Madcow then I must disavow. He just does not have the temperament.

Yeah, funnily enough I felt no reason to join in any of the OT discussions (even though back then I knew some of the OT posters in real life), and I mostly just checked the heavies for after-the-event information on injuries and illness.
Took the Iraq war and people still determined to reelect Bush to get me riled up enough to post.

That was the biggest "political" conflict I remember in my first seven years on SD. I was associated with the pro-Pride site, but I always thought that they brought different things to the table and had different divisions that they dominated, and also that Pride was declining before it died. The Pride HWs and LHWs were definitely better, while the UFC was better at other weight classes, etc. I also think it was clear that the UFC decided not to even try to compete for the top HWs (even after the merger), and instead wanted to build for the future. A lot of HW posters missed that, and just swallowed the idea that guys like Carwin, Mir, Brock, and Kongo were actually as good as the best HWs of the time. But it worked itself out as their two legit top prospects developed into great fighters and they eventually did acquire almost all top HWs.

I started off in traditional martial arts, and as a kid one of my Karate instructors competed in the Knock Down tournaments in Japan. That was the first martial arts tournaments I watched. I did watch the UFC from the start, but always preferred K1 and Pride. Not just on account of the level of skill, but also the whole "Tournament of Styles" concept and delivery. It retained more of that '80s Karate Kid mystique!
UFC always seemed like a trashy tough man competition in comparison.
Even now it largely retains that aesthetic, despite the evolution of the sport and the level of talent.

I really wish I had known about K-1 during its heyday. I didn't start seriously watching MMA until fall of 2004, and I missed a lot of the best K-1 and a lot of Pride too. High Octane in Oct. 2004 was the first event I ordered on PPV.

Perfect! Looking forward to your projected reendorsement.
