Sherdog Book Club

Who needs a library card? Children and poor ppl imo. And those odd few people that don’t feel the need to collect the books they read.

i'd be willing to put my kindle library and multiple bookshelves up against anybody's collection. and i am the proud owner of two library cards (city and county).

I have a mini library in my office at home. I’ve read every book on my shelves -some of them twice. Lately tho, I’ve been slow on the reading but I’ve been meaning to get back to it. Still haven’t finished reading ‘No Country For Old Men’, I’m about halfway thru and it’s just sitting on my night stand next to my bed.

Last book I read was ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ which was pretty good. I usually read ‘Catcher in the Rye’ once a year starting around Thanksgiving/Christmas but haven done that in some years. Thinking about giving that tradition another start up again but I have to finish No Country 1st.

In my prime reading years I’d read about 7-10 books a year. Not insane for avid readers I guess, but still a lot more than the average person I’d say. There were some years I’d read a lot more than that tho.

i love mccarthy and have read all of his books more than once. my favorite reading experience was staying up until 3am to finish 'the road' in one sitting. never has a work of fiction fucked me up quite like that.

that said, how the fuck can you read 'catcher in the rye' annually? fuck that noise. 1) can't stand that book. 2) not sure i could give any book attention annually. if i could it would probably be dickens at christmas.

and you should give the 52 book challenge a try one year. easily read a book a week if you forego a little bit of television. i have hit 50+ multiple years.

i would be in for a 'book club' if we wanted to pick a book and discuss it as we read.

This sounds interesting, going to check it out.

I used to read at least a book or two a week.
After I finished with my favourite authors I read a few autobiographies now I don't seem to find the time

lol

I know, the ‘CitR’ thing is weird, but there’s something about the book I dig. I’m honestly not sure how I made it a ‘thing’. I’m a very mood orientated type tho when it comes to certain things like music and films, and seasons play very well into that. So I’m thinking being in the Midwest and the way things are that time of year (fall/winter) may have something to do with it. It’s also not a super long read, nor is it a difficult one.

Yeah Cormac has some good stuff for sure, I’ve read The Road and Blood Meridian as well (BM was the 1st book of his I read). I dig his straight forward style of story telling.

As for the book challenge.. I’ve done 30+ in a year, but 50+ would most likely require a lot of consistency on my part that may or may not be available these days. I won’t rule it out tho. Sounds like a cool challenge.

I gots Norwegian Wood somewhere. Gotta get round to it sometime

For now I'm finally about to get around to Don Quixote

Norwegian Wood is well worth the read. It's his debut, but I only just read it beginning this year. My favorite is still The Wind Up Bird Chronicles.

That bit about the Japanese soldier in Mongolia was horrific. Powerful writing.

Im currently reading Death Of The Territories
It tells the story of how all the regional mom and pop pro wrestling operations that existed all over the country in the days before cable television were all either bought up and closed down or crushed under the steamroller of Vince McMahons WWF(now WWE) and his quest to become a national operation in the 1980's

Currently reading J. Prince's autobiography.

Bad motherfucker.
I'd like to read that
James Prince is like Carlo Gambino, hes not as loud and flashy as most of his contemporaries, hes just quietly amassed an empire thats not to be fucked with

Big book reader here, I have so many ebooks on my phone, right now reading Brad Thor’s The Lions of Lucerne

th

It was his debut novel and now he has written many more that focus on an ex-navy seal Scot Harvath.

I’ve read a few of his books, Use Of Force is my favorite so far.

I usually get through one book a week (spend a lot of time waiting in airports, being on planes and traveling) last month I went through Steven Kings IT and SALEMS LOT.

Dead on. He's so feared in that culture that when he finally speaks on something, people shut up and drop the issue. One of the most universally respected men in rap culture.

Thought there was a thread for that no?
i haven't seen it. but also could have missed it.

i have seen the "what are you reading," threads but those are largely people discussing what they are reading individually with no regard for reading the same book and carrying on a regular conversation about that book.

I've read quite a few books on drug addiction and recovery. Russel Brand actually has a few solid books. content.jpg

Ah that must have been it
