Sherdog’s Top 10: Best MMA Referees

Anyone see this article by Sherdog yet? It's total crap. BJM is one of the worst referees in the sport and he's #2. Herb Dean is considered the #1 referee. Although they are definitely the most "known" and "recognizable" refs they are both pretty bad, BJM especially. Herb has gotten a bit better in the past few years but he's had some notoriously big fuck ups, and was considered one of the WORST refs a few years ago.

IMO Rosenthal was the best ref in the biz prior to his legal problems. Also, there is no mention of Yves Lavigne who is also a great ref.

Also, where's Kim Winslow at? (Joking)

I don't know man, what Rosenthal allowed to happen to Munoz was pretty inexcusable.

Johns whole ref career is filled with high profile fuckups. There's literally so many times he's fucked up I'm not even going to bother. He's probably the only ref to land a flying knee on an unconscious fighter, break a combatant's nose, among other numerous fuck ups.

I think the list is pretty damn good. I think Rosenthal would have been a lot higher (on the list) if it weren't for that pesky stay in federal prison that he's currently is doing. One night Rosenthal would be flawlessly reffing a fight and the next he would be like "Say my name..." and then "... you're goddamn right". Anyway, I think Herb is one of the best if not the best despite some high profile mistakes and I think Big John is also. No big problems with the list in my opinion.

Herb Dean makes his share of mistakes (they all do) but to me it's more of a 3-way tie between Marc Goddard, Herb Dean, and Big John.

People just hate on Dean because he stops some fights (possibly) too early (Barao vs Faber) or (possibly) too late (Weidman vs Rockhold).

i was speaking more of herb who gets shit on alot despite being an actual good ref

You've also seen Herb refs the most. Big John and Herb are easily 1 and 2. I'm sure you've made some mistakes on the job as well. That doesn't make you shit. It just makes you human.
