Serious Movie Discussion XLI

I'd be very curious to hear you elaborate on why it's such a special movie to you.

Literally the opposite of everything you said. I'll expound later.

Ok, now who else is left to pop out from behind another door? flosh? YeahBee? Valkyrie?

Me and soda were briefly talking about Valkyrie after HC died. Apparently they kept in touch. She predated me, even.

@aquamanpunch

Flosh and Edco are two that i forgot about. But edco still pops in once in a blue moon.

That was actually one where the whole thread agreed it was awesome and I was part of the group :D

The original is also awesome. Did you see that one? One of the very rare instances where the original and the remake are considerably different but similarly awesome.

The remake is so much better. I like the original though.

Not to mention she was a she. Only girl that's ever posted in here IIRC. We scared her away at some point, though.

Yeah, edco still comes in from time to time. flosh is like The Rock now, calculating how long before every reappearance just so he can get a bigger pop when he shows his face :D

She was like your version of Weird Science Lisa. Serious movie discussing girl.

@The Hug Dog is the master of doing that. I think @flosh only came back once.

@Johner was a top quality regular too.

@aquamanpunch

What happened to @jstorm?

And I'm way cooler than Brian.

And you don't regularly post in here because...?

I will definitely try to.

Saw Money Monster with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Why, I have no idea why I went to see this movie. It's forgettable but not the worst movie I've ever seen. Predictable ending is predictable.

6/10

Was @Valkyrie @KVP? I remember @YeahBee (sweedish person), but I can't remember @Valkyrie I don't think.

@aquamanpunch

I don't remember a kvp. But Valkyrie was a girl that used to post here. I remember she made a bit of a name for herself in another thread when she started talking about how her and her brother would see each other naked all the time and how it wasn't weird.

She was definitely wrong about that.

Remember that chick who I think was a mod and someone posted videos of her impaling herself with a big ol' dildo? Haha oh man- poor chick.

Green Room was really good. First time in a long time that film violence was as unsettling to me as it was here. It was fucking brutal. Some of the threads fell apart towards the end a little bit, when what was otherwise cruising on subverted expectations fell victim to some predictable moments, but the stakes still always felt real & the tension stayed sky-high. A sense of dread & anxiety creeps into you (& the characters) around every corner pretty much.

Saulnier has a knack for capturing the very simple & flawed human-ness of his characters as well w/ all of its posturing to give off the effect of being true. But above all he captures the very human desire to survive & win (from something as simple as siphoning gas to not being hacked apart by blade-wielding skinheads), juxtaposing fright & bravery amid claustrophic carnage with a right proper smoothness. This was just as true in Blue Ruin as it was here. Saulnier gives a much needed shock from the defibrillator when it comes to genre filmmaking.

I also had absolutely no idea Patrick Stewart was in this movie, let alone as a pack leader of neo-Nazi skinheads. Almost shat myself when he showed up. Dude was straight sinister as fuck.

"Tell somebody who gives a shit."

Ha, not even a little bit. Must've been before my time. Doesn't sound like something one forgets.

Do you still post on that weird Rogan board?

I abandoned that years ago. I got pinked for saying that Audrey guy was a snake oil salesman and then after awhile I read a post by one of the mod's that they had directives to basically increase traffic and keep criticism to a minimum, so I never went back again.

EDIT her name was Crooklyn.

I just went there cause fingercuffs told me you were there and the Challenge was on. I probably stopped posting after the season ended.

I'm gonna start a thread here tomorrow i think.

What the fuck is going on btw? Is it 2010 again? I'm talking to JSN in the SMD.

2010 was in the running for GOAT join-date year at one point imo. It was a good year - I quit a job on bad terms for the first time, started my first serious relationship, and watched Shutter Island a bunch of times.

Wassup Flem! Haha I think I went AWOL for like 3 or more years at one point. I am lurking a lot more these days as I've been tentatively watching a little MMA again after getting totally burned out with it.

So who is still about from the early days? Soda? Yeahbee?

I recently rewatched Hudsucker Proxy and it massively improved in my view.

This was the first time i watched it in English.
I loved the throwback 30s-50s fast Dialogue and the throwback SFX.
Jennifer Jason Leigh does Katherine Hepburn well, but not copying, but rather doing a caricature of her.
It's also massively Kafka-esque and reminded me of Films like Brazil, Kafka or The Trial
Its also quite endeering like the scene with the boy discovering the Hula hoop or the Production of it.
Tim Robbins is uneven in getting the Coen charactarization right.
The typical Coen supporting Actors Army delivers here as well with Bruce Campbell, Charles Durning & Paul Newman (Polito,Buscemi,Goodman show up as usual)

Oh man, this has been nostalgia overload.

Me theskza bullitt and ufcfan4 still hold it down.

Sigh gunranger pops in when he can.

Soda still posts, but not in here. He popped in to pay tribute to HuntersCreed's recent passing, as did JSN, and @aquamanpunch made a surprise visit as well.

It's way easier on here now with the notifications and all that. It's like logging into facebook or something. Glad some of the original guys are still posting in here. For a long time this was my go to place online to chat and hang out. Really funny times and 'met' some cool people. I did hear the news about HuntersCreed a short while back, very tragic. RIP to him

I really liked 10 Cloverfield Ln I knew next to nothing going in which worked out well. I actually liked the ending which some people seem torn on. I liked that it kinda just kept getting weirder. Goodman was great but he usually is when given a chance. Winstead surprised me though. Didnt think she could carry a role of that size but she did great I think. I actually had to IMDB her after and realized I've actually liked her in most things she just hasnt had many good opportunities. She's cute as a button IMO

The Little Prince was fucking fantastic. If you like animations please check it out. It's half CGI and half stop motion and both are beautiful. I laughed and I cried but mostly I just smiled through the whole thing.

The reason I don't pop in as much anymore is just due to the sad fact that I just don't watch that many movies any more. I don't usually watch movies alone and my wife's school schedule has been a bitch the last year or so. My son moved out and my daughter stays busy doing teenage girl shit. We used to watch a lot of movies at night during the week and we just don't really do that any more.
