In Moldova, there are Romanians and Russians, among others.
Sergey Spivak is Russian.
Serghei or Spivac aren't Romanian names.

I'm Romanian, so I know stuff... AMA!

Now, is it Cyril Gane or Cereal Gone?!

What is Polar Bear's real name?
Some call him Serghei Spivac, and at the same time other media outlets call him Sergey Spivak.
What's going on?

According to Wikipedia it's Sergey Spivak, but then it says "In Romanian (Moldovan): Serghei Spivac"
What does that even mean??

For example, next week I'll go to Paris for Badr Hari vs James McSweeney at GLORY 88, and I can guarantee you when I'm about to have a conversation with some French man/girl and they ask me for my name, they won’t be able to pronounce “Maurits” and will just call me "Maurice".
It's always like that, lol. Though that’s just the way they pronounce my name in France, they can’t say “rits”, so they say “rice”.
Let’s say if I were to move to Paris and get a passport, I’ll still be Maurits and not all of a sudden become Maurice (or I’ll name myself BoxerMaurits, lol).

Why isn’t that the case with Polar Bear?
Imo it’s either Serghei Spivac or Sergey Spivak, but not both.

Right?

I've wondered the same. I think even sherdog headlines have altered between Spivak and Spivac. It bothers me more than it should lol.

It's Sergeant Spliff Wack.

I trust the man to have spelt his own name right on his personal instagram, therefore it's Sergey Spivak

I don't like Cyrillic transliteration. It's all over the place and you get names pronounced wrong. For example, Nikita Krylov was always pronounced "Cry-lov" when it's supposed to be more like "Krill-ov". They've recently started saying it more correctly but the foreign "i" sound is usually completely ignored by English pronunciation. It's the nature of transliteration which I always find annoying but it is what it is I suppose.

@BoxerMaurits you ain't going to this event? Thought you might, since it's close by.
Unfortunately not, I’ll not attend UFC Paris today, but I’ll be present in Paris with my dad next week for GLORY 88: Badr Hari vs James McSweeney!
