Secret Service arrests White House contractor with outstanding attempted murder warrant

The Secret Service arrested a contractor outside the White House on Tuesday for an outstanding warrant that includes an attempted murder charge, CBS News Washington correspondent Paula Reid reports.

A spokesperson for the sheriff's department of Prince George's Country, Maryland, told CBS News that the department had an outstanding warrant for a person by the name of Martese M. Edwards, on an attempted first-degree murder charge, dated May 17.

The Secret Service issued the following statement to CBS News:

"On June 4, 2018, the U.S. Secret Service was notified by the Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) that Martese Edwards was the subject of a warrant issued out of Prince Georges County, MD. On June 5, 2018, Edwards was promptly arrested by Secret Service Uniformed Division Officers at a checkpoint outside of the White House complex when he was reporting to work as a contractor. Edwards was transported to MPD Second District for processing."

The Associated Press said the Secret Service didn't provide Edwards' exact job or where he worked at the White House. It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.

I wonder if this guy will be hired by Trump's campaign.

I read that he has ties to the Clinton Crime Family.

I understand the age is off by a year. I wonder if it is possibly the wrong person. We should know for sure soon.

This guy was a real believer in the idea of hiding in plain sight.

Lots of attempted murder in the trump campaign?

Trump's top aide was urgently fired and escorted out of the White House by security because they uncovered financial crimes that left him open to blackmail. Hours later, Trump hired him for his campaign.

MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow admitted that the start of her show “was not the way I thought today’s news was going to go” as voters headed to the polls from New Jersey to California.

“In the midst of that, I did not expect that at 9 pm eastern time, on this night of all nights, I would be reporting on the attempted murder arrest just outside the White House,” Maddow explained.

Noting the “skeletal details” authorities have offered so far, Maddow explained that a 29-year-old Maryland man was arrested while heading to his White House job.

Martese Edwards, 29, was taken into custody at a checkpoint Tuesday on attempted murder charges filed in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

“We don’t know exactly what his job is,” Maddow noted. “NBC News has learned that he did have a White House pass, he was a contractor working at the White House.”

He reportedly worked for the National Security Council, which is currently run by National Security Advisor John Bolton.

“We don’t know what his job was nor do we know why the National Security Council would have been employing someone as a contractor who was actively wanted on an attempted murder warrant,” Maddow noted.

“The National Security Council referred all of our questions to the U.S. Secret Service, the U.S. Secret Service are not answering their phone,” she explained. “So, again, we are still looking for more information here, but this is a strange story.”

Not much information to go off of. If he is guilty definitely makes the Trump circus a little bit crazier.

I thought this was gonna be something like poisoning Trump's food. Boring.

It could be someone with the same name, or even a similar name (e.g. "Martin Edwards"). It happens often enough. If not, it's hard to fathom how the background check missed this.

So.....no?

So.....no?

That's right, you brilliant man, the thing I never insinuated in any way is not true.

Jesus Christ, one day America is going to have to answer for these funding cuts to its school programs.

Yeah when a simple yes or no question gets 2 irrelevant sentences as an answer, we should all worry.
