Sean Woodson

I can't believe the Factory X game plan(confirmed by Anthony Smith after) was to turn it into a dirty boxing match. Even he was surprised that Anglin was willing to stand with him. Once he knew the takedowns were off the table he let the hands go and damn. Good boxers make those body shots look easy!

Body blow .... Body blow !!

Dude did great job working the body ...I bet that shit hurt like a Ford escort going half speed and slamming into his mid section

Dude looks like he should be attending a charity softball game in the VIP section, ifyaknowwhatimean. Sean "Make a Wish" Woodson does kinda just roll off the tongue.

In all seriousness though, the guy chucks hands very smoothly and would make for an interesting matchup with guys like Fili and Elkins.

Damn I missed his fight. Always fun to watch.

I didn't see it, but he's a good fighter - good to watch. Absolutely gigantic for the division, too.

defensively he leaves a LOT to be desired. not the best footwork either. really solid punch selection and technique on his shots though. similar to the diaz bros.

He’s extremely tall and wiry with a tiny torso lol. Oddly shaped
He looks disgustingly unhealthy. It's like he's skinny but not meant to be skinny as opposed to other skinny guys like O'Malley and Sandhagen

He has elite timing. The biggest differentiator with great boxers vs average is a natural understanding of timing and off rhythm punches.

i don’t agree that he has elite timing specifically because the elite level requires on-rhythm AND off-rhythm strikes with defensive capabilities filling in the gaps. he hasn’t shown 100% of that yet. the foundation is there though. i would love to see a small step-up in comp for sean

Body shots are cool and all but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves about him being one of the best boxers in the UFC - he's definitely got some beautiful combinations and off-rhythm timing, but let's also look at who he's doing it against.

It makes your skills look incredible when they match you up with a dude that is a grappler that is 6 inches shorter and he chooses to stand and bag with you:

"I was super surprised (he didn’t go for a takedown). He has a wrestling base, and knowing how my striking is, I figured he’d be shooting the first 15, 20 seconds. Credit to him (for standing) for sure, but I was surprised.”

The guys with truly elite MMA boxing are the ones who can implement that style into an effective attack against high-level opposition that pose tons of counter-threats - Petr Yan, Rob Font, Jose Aldo, Max Holloway, Dustin Poirer, Conor McGregor, etc.

Looking at his WIKI he only boxed until he was 16, so it's not like he was a proven elite boxer prior to joining the UFC

Sean Woodson’s dad was the driving inspiration behind his fighting career as his father would watch fights with his son, developing a passion for boxing. His mother had other ideas and took Sean to a trip to the pediatrician at the age of 8, asking the doctor to explain the dangers of boxing. Instead the doctor told her that with headgear, boxing is actually safer than a lot of other sports like football or hockey. Sean's mother then took him to the gym where he fell in love with the sport.

Woodson grew up in North County, had his first amateur fight at 8 and went on to post a 46-3 amateur record. Following a serious car accident at age 16, he ended up living at Matt Hughes’ Hit Squad Gym in Granite City. There, he was introduced to mixed martial arts.

Best part of the story has to be is that somehow a real doctor convinced his mom that an 8-year old should do boxing instead of other sports because it's safer...
