He is not fast
He is not explosive
He doesn't seem very athletic
He doesn't have punching power
He is clearly not Israel, Rob, Wboy

For those who complain Strickland hits like a girl, what stopped a guy like Cannonier to go full berserk on him?
Or even Hall?

He has a good jab and good reactions, but it's not like this should stop a guy like Cannonier, with KO power and explosiveness, to be more offensive.
Watching the fight, Cannonier didn't do much. He tried a few times timidly, as he did in the Israel fight.

I think what stops Canonier to go full on is not wanting to gas out. Strickland seems to have a good chin(that shot from Alex would KO anyone) and good durability and cardio. You can go full on and start head hunting, but what if it doesnt work and then you are gassed out?

His stand up in designed to frustrate..both his opponents and the crowd.

Hes pretty good at that..

But actually fighting...his stance is incredibly tight and straight legged ..its amazing to me he hasnt been Power doubled through the cage floor yet the takedown is there all day against him..

Also hes very dependent on the jab u take that weapon away and his stance issues become evident...he cant close distance cuz his stance is short and moving back is his default ..someone like Whittaker would K.O this guy pretty easily because of this. .

Im not sure how good his grappling is but watching him fight or move makes me think hes trying to bait people into grappling but it never happens LOL ..

He throws a pretty stiff jab which I think probably stings more than people want to admit. Trying to be super aggressive against him is just asking to run into those jabs and followup crosses which over time accumulate to a lot of damage. His opponents are also aware that if they gas out then his volume striking will become problematic and potentially lead to a TKO.

He has a brown belt so I guess he has some BJJ chops, but I would say most elite fighters in the UFC know going berzerk on another fighter may work in regional shows but these guys are too good and experienced to typically lose in that fashion. It might seem like it would work, but that is easy to say when watching a fight vs actually being in the fight. If you don't think Strickland can put his ass into a punch and knock your block off then I would say you would be sadly mistaken. He is typically a point fighter with his boxing but I can promise you if he wanted to throw harder punches he has them in his arsenal. There is a reason fighters stopped fighting like an early 2000's Vitor.

He hits harder than people are suggesting maybe? Obviously his powertl isn't ridiculous but his punches aren't telegraphed and the ones you don't see sting.

Cannon was more active in this fight than he has been in his previous bouts, Strickland is just also pretty solid defensively. You've been an MMA fan long enough to know that at this weight class you can't just walk through punches.

Because its not that easy to land flush on him because he has a very high and tight guard, and also Cannonier doesn't want to blow his wad, so he doesn't blitz, so thats why he kicked his legs and kicked his body because its open all the time.

Anyways Strickland is very frustrating to watch and I don't enjoy his fights because his style is designed to make it hard for the opponent to land but also has a low output himself and the same basic jab over and over on loop. He will never be a champion doing what he does because he just doesn't have enough weapons, its the same jab always with a rare occasional hook thrown in every now and then. No leg kicks, no body kicks, no spinning attacks, no elbows, no knees, he is so limited, doesn't have a wide variety of strikes at all.

holy shit are people tough to please. not even a year ago Strickland was walking guys down and pressure fighting leading to wins.... zero bitching. today he's a piece of shit and can't fight
Doesn't take much these days

His boringness rubbed off on Cannonier. Jarod's aggressive style got him a title shot. Now he's trying to be a finesse striker? I liked how his style was opposite to his crystal living demeanor. The crystals of this beautiful soul are making him soft.
