Trying to get myself at least a little pumped for the card this weekend. Apart from Edgar/Ortega and a decent undercard, not much overall excitement, but as a fan having a backstory always helps.

I just watched the new Embedded. Pretty unfamiliar with Sean O'Malley, just vaguely remembered seeing his Charlie Brennamen-like fro and awful chest tat.

Looked him up, watched some highlights, funky unorthodox style but obviously inexperienced. Def don't know anything on his opponent. (Andre Soukhamthath?)

So what do you guys think? Is there (justified) hype behind him? Too early to tell? What does the general MMA-fan consensus say about this kid?

Not a UFC-caliber fighter, will get exposed against decent competition. No striking defense.
 
His mop of curls will provide some excellent "getting brutally KOed" GIFs in the future. He should know that already.

I actually really liked him until Dana started hyping him up.

Too early to tell, hasn't fought a solid wrestler. Entertaining style, and that Andre is legit when he doesn't mess around showboating. Fight has potential.

that interview @tenniswhiz posted shows him repeatedly mentioning how his opponent kept trying to take him down - "what the hell I thought he wanted to fight?"
Definite red flag when someone says that, esp a young fighter with flashy striking.

UFC probably thinks he could be their American Conor if he keeps winning.. but as with Ngannou this hype train is going to get derailed sooner or later. If he wins this fight he'll probably get thrown in over his head against a veteran and lose the next one.

The guy also seems really lanky compared to others in his division, almost like he hasn't finished fully growing as a human being, I could see him getting ragdolled by wrestlers if he doesn't bulk up a little.
 
Askren hair + Conors body + yairs kicking style. Feels like some 10 year old's create a fighter.

Yeah, his nickname is rly cringe. One thing to note though is that a lot of his recent fights have been on short notice, so it's hard to judge him.
 
Napoleon Dynamite with some tattoos and a joint in his mouth. Pretty good KO power, but gasses.

Soukhamtath is really not good. Seen him fight before. It's supposed to be a gimme-fight for Sean.
Lost against Albert Morales who is currently on the verge of getting cut and 1-4-1 in the UFC.
