It's a fine way to have a relationship with multiple partners if you're able to communicate. Adults can have these kind of relationship you know. You don't have to be dismissive of a concept that makes you feel weird. Like how do you think all relationships end up? Somebody leaves and or someone dies or life happens. You can have rewarding relationships with multiple partners and grow and live your life. He's just trying to figure out what works with himself.
