Ankalaev vs Pereira is already slotted in for UFC 319 in August. That's out.

UFC 317 & 318 have no main event and only Pantoja, Islam, and Jon Jones are available. And that's assuming Merab fights @ UFC 316.

Unless they've decided to strip Jon Jones, then they NEED Merab to headline one of UFC 316, 317, or 318.

Edit: It could happen but Dana would have to throw mega millions in backroom bonuses to Volk. Given how UFC PPV numbers have been reportedly struggling, I doubt Dana can afford to do that right now.

I personally would like to see Umar vs Merab rematch. That was one of the highest level fights I've ever seen, and Merab's cardio is insane. If any fight ever deserved a rematch, it was that one.

No, I don't. He already lost his belt the last time with a relative short notice title defense. I doubt he ever does a 3-4 month turnaround ever again.

He turns 37 this year, so injuries are more of a concern than ever for him. He needs to take care of his body and heal whatever nagging injuries he might have from his recent camp/fight.

You say he turns 37, All the more reason for him to keep things moving best he can he looked great in his last fight and if he didn't sustain injury History suggests he not only could, but would be more than willing to fight in a 4-5 month period from his last fight.
