Scooter and bike invasion. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this?

Coming to a city near you.. thousands of dockless scooters and bikes. Proponents say they cut down on motorized transportation thus reducing pollution. Oppoents say they are basically litter. I live in San Diego and they are everywhere. My issue is that when you are done with bike/ scooter you just leave it wherever the hell. So they're behind trees, in trashcans, parking lots etc.

Your experiences? Discuss.

San Fran hates them. I'm all for it if a city has dedicated bike lanes. They can't be on the side walk nor on the streets with cars.

In China they had bicycles, it’s really cool, you get the app, pay and then scan the QR code on the bike and it unlocks.

The app lets you find where bikes are even when they are left in random places.

Yeah my wife just came back from China. I was shocked to hear that they have that app bike system over there too. It's the same system here.

We also have Wechat Pay.

I can order a taxi, buy plane tickets, have food of various kinds delivered, charge my mobile phone's service or data, donate to charities, or give X amount of Yuan to teaching assistants, friends, or whoever, literally at the push of a button.

As well, anywhere I go and anything I want can be paid via scanning, or being auto scanned.

This would never fly Stateside though, too many archaic financial regulations and banking issues to protect a few key interests more than likely.

In China there was one company where I was that had grey and orange ones, they were wildly successful and within a few months, there were 2 more companies, one had yellow bikes the other was neon green.

I'm spoiled now and never leave the Pearl River Delta.

Traveling around China can be fun, but...

Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and if I have to for a competition or conference... Guangzhou, are the places to be.

Shanghai is... OK... for a week...

Beijing is... OK... to quickly visit for two or three days and then flee for five years...

I lived in Hangzhou for a while... great for a couple of years, and before the air turned to pea soup...

Sanya is fine, Kunming is fine, Lijiang, Xiamen, some other tourist spots are... OK...

That's the best I can say.

Oh, and Macau is great, but now a lot of it is crowded with gaudy Vegas style super casinos where a lot of Mainlanders pile in to rather raucously gamble and whore it up.

The European and Cantonese parts/strips of the city are still nice though, a small place at that, you can walk around all of central Macau in about a day and half.

I had a sweet deal, for 7 years, I got paid US 73k/year to work in a university in a city about 2 hours from Beijing, free rent etc. I actually liked that city and banked tons of $$$ with the low cost of living.

I liked being able to pay with wechat, I fucking hated getting paid by we chat though.

Montreal has Telus bikes, and NYC has the Citibikes.

Basically they are bikes parked outside with lots of spots all over, and you can rent one, then park it back at one of their spots.

Skateboards are better. You can carry around with you and less chance of getting stolen that way.

Yeah that's Lime Bike. We have the exact same shit here. There was even a homeless guy staking them up.. making a makeshift house out of them. I head in some cities...they are tossing them in the river. Some people are even cutting the brakes off of them.. as a sick practical joke. You get on one.. ride downhill and realize you have no breaks

I have noticed them springing up in my city over the last year or two. Green bikes that people leave around.
