There are some very transparent attempts to spin this within this thread. Unsurprising, but no less absurd.
First, sure, this likely isn't curriculum that's being taught in a ton of places. Yet. But the reality is that just a few years ago this type of thing would NEVER have been allowed to be taught anywhere. That's the the way the momentum is moving, so to dismiss this as a one-off that doesn't have the chance to take hold in many more classrooms is disingenuous.
That aside, those in this thread attempting to justify it because "Well...uhh.. really they're just speaking of systemic racism and why the oppressed having prejudices don't really affect anything vs why those in power having them do..."
Here's the thing: They aren't claiming that "all racism should be condemned but here's why racism by whites is more destructive from a systemic sense". Look at the memes that the teacher put on that slide FFS. They straight up say, with no room for any sort of interpretation, that "reverse racism doesn't exist" and "the prejudices of POC don't affect the rights of white people". I mean, unless you're absolutely brain dead or actually are a racist, you clearly see how dangerous it is to be teaching this to kids. It's operating under the assumption that ONLY systemic racism is real and meaningful, and racism on a personal level doesn't matter. Not just that the two are different, but that one is real and meaningful, and the other is either nonexistent or so insignificant that it doesn't merit any attention.
To say "Racism by whites toward POC is worse than racism by POC toward whites and here's why" is one thing. Still a slippery slope and some pretty choppy waters to navigate, but at least there's SOME nuance that can be applied to make that a viable discussion. That's not what the slide says though.
The Slides is a meme.
I am not a Professor of Education but I did studied education as a degree.
If I make presentation that is meme levels I would fail that class and the Profesor would say that using Memes to make a pointcis un-accademic heck I got a part of a report discredited because my source is some articles from Wikipedia even if the Wiki has suporting citations.
