Hi everybody, I'm looking to buy some SBD sleeves in the near future but I'm a little unsure about what size to get.

Here is the chart...

The tricky part is that my knees are 15.5 inches and my calves are 16.5 inches. In all the reviews on sizing that I have read, I haven't seen anyone with similar proportions. I want a fairly tight fit but I don't need anything crazy, I'm not too concerned with getting extra weight from the sleeves.

Any advice from people who own these sleeves is welcomed, thanks!

The sizing chart should state that if your calves measure greater than the knee joint, to sub the calf size in.

My calves are much larger than my knees. My calves are 43cm and my knee is 39. Above my knee is 47. I wear size XL.

Thanks, yeah I saw the subbing in the calf size part but I was curious to hear from someone who had done that to see how they fit. I guess I would be XLarge or Large if I wanted to size down. Do you have much trouble getting your's on?

No. I use the roll top down, roll bottom up and slide it up onto the knee. The hardest part is getting it up over the knee, specifically over the hamstring. If I'm sweaty they are harder to get on. I usually put them on before I leave the house, if it's a squat day. I don't do a warm-up. Just warm-up with the barbell on my back.

What kind of gain can you expect from a tight fit ?

I have seen people struggle to put them on at IPF competitions so I guess the gain is real as they seem to take a size or even almost two below sometimes to have some gains..

I get roughly 0lbs more than my rehbands. But they are comfortable, and the compression keeps my tendons happy.

I've heard anything from 0-30lb. Not sure if I believe the high end. Either way, I really do not care if I get anything out of them or not. I just want something that will hold up over time. I have a pair of rocktape sleeves that perform fine, they are just falling apart more quickly than I had hoped.

I seem to recall stories of some guys at Worlds using a new pair for each attempt.

If you're asking about gains from sleeves, and you're not gaming a rule set, just get some wraps already.

Must be nice to be able to drop over $300 on knee sleeves that you're going to use once. I saw photos of guys using suit slippers to get on their sleeves.

I've always felt like you shouldn't rely on the things like sleeves and wraps to get the work done. I get it though, there are more than just added weight bonus to wearing them.

There's a kid in town here who wraps his knees for his 5x5. I've just never really believed that was smart training if you're not competing. But maybe I'm wrong.

It's not. If you don't compete in powerlifting/strongman with wraps, there's no reason to use them (IMO).

Which was my thoughts exactly.

I get pissed because I introduced this kid to PL when he was a skinny, shitty hockey player about 3 years ago. He's made some pretty decent gains in the gym but the fa.gg.ot gym owner let's him do dumb shit like train in wraps. I'm convinced that if it weren't for that fuck gym owner he'd be squatting close to 500 by now at 20 years old. He started with nothing and he has all the time in the world to devote to the sport, yet he's still squatting mid 3's in wraps. Barely hits over 500 on the DL and benches less than me. Sad story actually. A kid who is seriously devoted to training yet is held back by dumb fuck coaching.

But he doesn't see it. He stays cause the gym guy inflates his ego and lets him train there for really cheap. He's got a little harrem of 19-20 year olds that he gets to poison with his shitty coaching.

If you need wraps to squat it, you can't squat it.

Just kidding, I'm a weak little bitch, I'm not judging anybody.
