When one mentions great athletes, the first thing that pops in the head of a lay man is the NFL and NBA, then MLB Baseball. Even Boxing holds its share of great athletes that devoted their life ti boxing as kids while you have those that compete for the Olympics.

The main emphasis if athleticism of course are the LHW to HW dudes. But even with the smaller fighters, internationally the best athletes are playing Soccer (FIFA).

How about wrestlers though?

You have College wrestlers that plays NFL football. But the ones that don't go and compete for the Olympics. All high level athletes.

Now MMA has become an outlet for post Collegiate wrestlers and the best athletic wrestlers that just wishes to make a living professionally off their skill jump into MMA.

Why are these wrestlers in MMA not identify as great athletes? Brock Lesnar was a good example of a great athlete. He did not make the NFL because he was too old and the expectation of him being in the NFL was that of a 18-21 year old. Lesnar at the time was 27. You have King Mo, a great athlete. How about Kevin Randleman during his prime? You had Olympic medal athletes who did fairly or failed in MMA but were great athletes.

Why are wrestlers in MMA so underrated as great athletes?
