ya my dad used to send us letters in Boot camp signed "USMC Sgt Maj Keniry...." and we definately caught shit for every...single...letter from the DIs/DSs

my brother got it worse than me b/c he was in the same branch, but they would only go so far b/c well ya. they'd have to answer

well the marines are nothing like the AF and even Army in terms of ribbon distribution, and that specific uniform didn't have the medals also attached

i mean he made E-9 in 18 years, meritorious promotions every single rank and was up for Sgt Maj of USMC when he retired.
That being said, due to his nominative positions he didn't deploy to either Iraq or Afghanistan after 9/11 b/c he was in charge of whole NCO schools and MCCES

he was in somalia and afghanistan prior plus all the MEUs though

I served roughly 5 years and have 12 ribbons for example, most marines have 4 or 5 when they get out after one term, they rarely even get Achievement Medals. I have 4 and 2 Commendation Medals and i didn't do anything crazy...
 
Counting ribbons seems pretty gay , when in perspective you are paid to scatter brains

Didn't know USMC was stingy with their ribbons. AF is definitely not.

those stripes on the right sleeve are foreign service stripes, which means at that pt he spent a full 3 years downrange in combat time

again, even the medals don't reflect what's been done, not for Marines. other branches hand them shits out, it's almost comical

For example, Brian Stann earned a legit Silver Star as a young lower Officer in the marines. If you actually read the full details of that story, it's actually absurd. That was straight up MoH type ish, well above and beyond the normal call of duty

i know, my old boss in the Army transferred from the AF so he had all these random things we don't (i.e. long tour/short tour, etc..) plus he had a staggering amount of awards. That, combined w/ the Army handouts, made him literally look like Rambo as an E-5 haha

that wasn't as bad as when my ex wife (fiance then) sent me homemade SNickerdoodles. They made me attempt to eat them all in front of everyone until i literally puked, no quitting. I was trying to slide them on the floor to others, they weren't having it.

Especially after eating the borderline alien food, you can't handle 'real food'. Got like 21 in and it was a wrap. Then i had to do pushups and planks for an hour.
