i can't tell if WLU is clowning w/ the i joined out of 'honour' shit, but i literally got asked everyday why i was there by higher ups (although they certainly capitilized on that by giving me every single extra duty imaginable), so i completely understand your point.
I actually would've joined right out of college, but my brother getting wounded and best friend getting killed in Fallujah gave me some pause if i'm being honest. But i really did feel like i owed something, having grown up on bases in government housing, graduating from an elite DoD HS, etc....
Getting student loans paid off, a 30k bonus, and somehow getting stationed in Germany was just the icing
