lmao, that's pretty awesome. I can only imagine someone who played in the EPL watching americans try and coach/play soccer.

Definitely the type of person you strive to be like.

I coached kids soccer for a couple of years. The parents in general were intolerable. One kid was very, very skilled and his dad never said a word. One day I said to the dad, "hey XXXX is really skilled". THe dad just said, "he has fun playing. He has no speed and isn't going anywhere, but he likes it."

Turns out that the dad played in the English 1st division (before they called it the "EPL"). He never told us what do or made any comments even though he must have known that we were clueless morons.

That's fucking great.

Yeah, parents can be annoying as an ump, but I just tell the coaches to get them under control and that almost always works. I deal with less shit than most of the guys I ump with, because I'm a big guy and I like to think I do a good job. Some umps just shouldn't be umping.

The parents on coach thing is hilarious to watch though. That happens a lot more than me taking grief. Definitely had to break up more near fights (only had one come to blows before I got control of the situation) between people on the 'same side' (parent/coach, coach/coach) than between opposing teams' coaches/parents which has only happened a handful of times in my years umping.
