ok, one's real and one's fake

damn if I can tell which one is which

plus it looks like the links on the left one are misaligned and the center links are duller.
good call, frausto.

Some of the fakes aren't bad at all. You can tell by their weight and whether the dial looks right. Some are wonky, crooked, look like they've been cut with an exacto knife. The real ones don't feel and look mass produced, they feel and look "crafted". Take the back off and it's either some shit electronic movement, or some basic automatic movement

All that said Im still not right 100% of the time. Sometimes I have to tell the clowns "lemme show my watchmaker before I do anything"

$300 is LOL worthy for a fake watch though

The second hand movement is usually the first thing that gives away a fake.

the stuff they sell in Shanghai looks real at first and you pay something like $25. It's kind of unbelievable the amount of work and technology that you get for a mere $25. A guy i knew bought one for less than $15 (as if $25 was too much to pay). About a day later the clasp broke and he couldn't take off the watch. Later that day it started self-destructing (no joke). Maybe worth that extra $10 to go for the more expensive knock-off Rolex.

the fake industry brings in more money that the market for the real ones. amazing.
apparently the weight is an issue as well as things like the crown logo on the watch face and on the
stem.

Apparently the luxury watch market is tanking. Millennials just don't put having an expensive watch high on their list of priorities.

That's funny because I have a couple of personal anecdotes about younger people that don't like watches. If I had to guess it is because of phones. I am technically a millennial, but I grew up without a cell phone so I wore a fucking watch. I guess the kids just use their phones to check the time.

Back in my day having a shitty Fossil watch was a cool thing. Had a sick Fossil watch until a football coach heard me call someone a fuckface in the hallway in HS. Instead of taking me to the principal he made me do 50 pushups right then. Ended up snapping the band.

I still don't have expensive watches. I have a couple of Seikos that were a couple hundred each. Also have a Michael Kors that was a gift that was about $200. I have worn a watch since I was a kid so it feels to weird not to have one on throughout the day.

like I've heard many young folks say, "Why do you need an old-timey wristwatch when the time is right on your Apple Watch and/or your phone?"

The watch market in general is tanking. I feel bad for legit watchmakers - they do incredible work and yet they're like a worse version of a tailor now. Most of them that I know mainly deal in estate jewelry now, and only use their talents with side work

People don't wear watches since their phones tell them the time. Everybody used to own a watch, now it's only a small part of the population that like them. For the majority of them, it's just a part of fashion

I personally own some beautiful watches and love wearing them. My gold bracelet is my daily wear (mainly because it can take a beating compared to a watch), but it's nice to change it up

The left is crooked, the text is shit. It's also worth nothing compared to a real one, which will always hold tremendous value

All time punchable face. Want to punch without knowing anything about him. Knowing what he does makes me want to bolliterate with a sledgehammer.

man, I wish I could find that old thread from the OT in like 07 where dude comes on to brag about his Casio or some such shit and then another guy comes on with pics of hella rare, expensive watches and blew the thread up. It was awesome.
Matt knows the one I'm talking about, but sadly he's gone I guess.

It's a hassle. All jewelry bugs me. I couldn't tell you where my wedding ring is. I have a Tag and a Raymond Weill. I hardly wear either. The first chance I get I take them off. Agree with the phone -- it's always right.

I don't think Millennials care about "having a nice stereo" either. That's another sign that you are old -- you have "a nice stereo". I don't know how the high end audio business stays afloat. I guess there are still nutty audiophiles out there who get sucked into the bullshit that industry feeds them when off the shelf $10 amplifier chips provide MHz of bandwidth with near perfect linearity.

Just tell @Corona to show you his shitty watch collection lol

He collects shitty watches? Sounds like the first buyer in eBay history; the dude bought a green laser pointer that didn't work for $7. The guy who built the eBay website called him up asking why he bought a green laser pointer that doesn't work. The answer: "I collect laser pointers that don't work".
