gravy on fries sounds like a Candian thing.
anyone ever had this poutine stuff?
MAC06_CANADA_PROJECT_RICHLER_POST01.jpg

looks freakin delicious IMO

Poutine can be great. But that above looks like some shitty Poutine.

Lot of gastropubs arounds here have it as an appetizer, Short Rib Poutine etc... usually phenomenal.

I'm no expert in these weird northern cultural quirks.

Post up a pic of what good poutine looks like.
Anything involving potatoes and gravy is alright IMO.

It would be a huge win for the states if the south seceded again and picked up Ontario as a ufa.

Then all the assholes in quebec can finally become their own country and western canada can just stay canada.

Lmao

The secret to good poutine is the ratio on everything. You don't want them soggy with gravy, but you also don't want the cheese curds running the asylum.

Cheese curds are weird. I've gotten used to them but still feel like you're eating Styrofoam.

looks like great food after a night of heavy drinking
I think that's why it was made, to be honest. Some drunk guy just had fries, gravy, and cheese curds and was sure he was going to die if he didn't get something in his stomach asap.

growing up in NY, we had all night Greek diners to go to. the GOAT greasy cheeseburgers and fries.
and the portions were huge.
either that or a full on eggs/bacon/hash browns breakfast at 3am.
really hit the spot.

For those in Toronto ...

Greek food on the Danforth until 4am. Also Chinatown (Spadina). Nothing beat a plate of black bean beef on noodles at Swatow at 2:30am.

this one will probably predate all of the Canuckistanians (except for maybe @AlphaOmegaMan). After a night in Yorkville, we used to hit up a burger restaurant called Toby's on Bloor between Bay and Yonge.

Also Fran's. Even Glenn Gould was a regular.

I see what you did there.

But seriously. Apparently he was a regular at Fran's.

funny story about Glenn Gould. He was a very odd person -- majorly autistic at the very least. He was infamous for just not showing up for shows or canceling an entire tour. Arturo bennedetti Michelangeli was even more of a recluse and would also often cancel performances --- OTOH he was the GOAT pianist.

Michelangeli was supposed to play in Toronto and at the last minute he cancelled. Glenn Gould subbed for him. Considered it an honor.
