This thread makes me want to watch all the saw movies in order. Outside of the first one, I only remember random deaths with no concept of story.
I heard someone say its best to view it as a long & gorey Netflix series.
But like all horror series the later entries aren't anywhere as good as the first few... And I'd argue it's the most inconsistent horror series ever.
Saw 1&2 : Two of the best horror movies ever. Contains some of the best twists that have ever been in movies. I'm not exaggerating.
Saw 3 : Very mixed opinions. Lots of wasted potential they tossed aside for inferior ideas.
Saw 4 : Its almost a return to the quality of the first two movies. Still great, surprisingly.
Saw 5 : At the time I considered it to be trash, and my opinion probably wouldn't improve much after watching it again.
Saw 6 : Surprisingly almost as good as Saw 4... Still a great entry.
Saw 7/3D : If Saw5 was trash, Saw7 was absolute shit. Even worse, it shit on the original entry of the series.
The ending was copy&pasted from an internet theory from an message board the writers admitted they were familiar with.
All movies after this are one-offs.
Jigsaw : 'Meh' at best. They toned down the gore to almost PG-13 levels and practically every aspect of the plot was copy & pasted from previous Saw movies.
Spiral : 'Trash' is the best word that describes this, like Saw 5.
Saw X : This was... Surprisingly good. Set between Saw 1&2 its definitely worth watching and fits well between the canon of the first two excellent movies.
