Saved by the bell

So what if a guy has back control and is working for a choke, with the other fighter defending well, but he is certainly in a bad spot, do you just let the round go on forever?

No working for a choke is not the same as having one in place. As far as the purpose of timed rounds being defeated I don't think so, no. People aren't in real danger of being finished at the bell all that often.

Didn't the organization that did Eddie Bravo vs Royler II have a rule like this or am I talking out my ass

Maia/Fitch would still be taking place.

UFC is a sport with rules and rounds, that's how it is.

But yes, the only realistic way to do it would be to eliminate rounds completely and just have them go until one guy dies.

If that rule were in place fighters would always keep fighting after the bell. It would be chaos. One fighter hears the bell and lets his guard down, then gets cracked because the other guy thought he was rocked worse than he was. Too many variables, it would cause more problems than solutions.

OK so I got a good read on people's opinion, which is largely that it's a bad, if not horrible idea and that's cool. However, to say it's somehow uncivilized to not have people be saved by the bell I think is just silly. For those that say it just wouldn't work just know it's done in boxing already, and it could be worked out if it was really wanted. Cheers.

This has been discussed before but basically you can't do that. What is "almost finished" or "submission attempted" or "recovered"?

If I have a guillotine locked in are you gonna let me just hold it for 45 seconds? If I have full mount and have "almost finished" a guy how many shots do I get after the bell before he is "recovered" or before you thikn I'm not going to finish him.

There is just know way to enforce the rule and it makes ZERO sense anyway. What next, in the NFL if I'm "almost" going to score I get to keep trying until 4th down is over even if the clock is expired?

If you

Metamoris does this and it works for them, but I can see it causing a shitload of controversy in MMA.

I so used to run home from middle school to catch the gang hangin out on saved by the bell.
