Almost 27 years ago, Rorion Gracie and Art Davies held a tournament in hopes of identifying which martial art would reign Supreme when pitted against others. 27 years later,, we have our answer thanks to Fedor and Khabib. Khabib simply brought a higher level of Sambo to mma as competition improved. BRB, enrolling in my strip mall Sambo gym.

We had our answer in the 90s when we figured out that it's not the martial art but the individual fighter and his combination of all elements that reigns supreme. Crazy that people still open up that old, rusty can in 2020.

Exactly. BJJ is just a ground grappling art - probably the best of its kind, where Sambo is a fully developed mixed martial arts system. If you were going to learn how to fight from A to X, Sambo is the best bet, as it encompasses every necessary fighting element. Sambo is a ready to go mma base.

Strikes are not scored very highly unless they lead to a stoppage. So it emphasizes grappling over striking. If you pepper a guy all fight and he hits a few take downs but does nothing with them the guy scoring take downs will win.

This seems to be the exact thinking MMA enthusiasts are trying to reverse in MMA.

Yet no other sambo guys can even sniff a title while numerous wrestlers have been champ and continue to be top 10 at multiple weight classes

Khabib and Fedor were insanely gifted athletes who trained multiple disciplines growing up and MMA specifically for years.

Sambo is very respectable and a great martial arts system but the notion that it's superior is kind of a reach. It's just a mix of judo and wrestling that lets you punch people in the head.

NOOO. Khabib's dad trained like 26 world champions in his life, and there were other Sambo based UFC fighters on this card alone beside Khabib, which is an indication of how an effective of a sport it is. Its not a mix of judo and wrestling, that tells me all I need to know about your argument. You are just arguing for the sake of arguing.
