  • ilyagrad@supersagenorthcutt came in for sparring today preparing for UFC 200. I want to say something nice because he's a great kid but oh my what a disaster it was. His dad is probably the worst coach I've seen in my life. He walks around talking shit, interrupting his real coach during the rounds and gives poor Sage negative pet talk in between! Then at the 3rd round when I was just warming up they accused me of trying to hurt him and retired him from sparring! - I was shocked they pulled him out only 10 minutes into sparring as I was working really clean and even let him off the hook to create space when he needed to. Never have I seen such bad coaching in my life! You have great potential kid, If you smart tell your dad to stay away from your fight camp so you could actually get some training done!
    Good luck for 200 ✌️

Sounds about righT

sage's brother replied to this and posted his own version of what happened along with video footage of the training. don't think we can draw many conclusions.

TS....if it dodnt happen in the last 10 minutes you can bet its already posted here.

He reminds of James Colburns character in this unknown fine film

On one had, his domineering father is one reason why Sage is relatively accomplished among gifted young athletes. At the same time, if he remains to be the driving force of Sage's career/life, Sage wouldn't reach his max potential. Not sexy.

And too bad his dad isnt like Stephen Thompsons. His dad cleary let him develop once he got into mma. After the Matt Brown fight he knew he needed to work on his defensive grappling, and it seems he has improved a whole lot on that.

Sage is young and he is unliked because he is the golden boy and really didnt earn his "superstar" label. But I hope he develops and grows up a bit cause he would be exciting to see fight and the more media for the sport the better imo
