after watching him attempt to punch his way out of full mount a second time tonight, this time against arguably the best submission artist in the game, i think its time to admit vitor's jiu jitsu was never that good. this coming from someone who picked vitor to win. guy has shit fight IQ when he's not dominating

No one has ever compared Vitor's jiujitsu to Demian Maia or Roger Gracie, so no, it's not overrated.

I mean, he did almost take home Jon Jones' arm, so...

Well it's almost non existent in the bottom, crazy how he managed to get an armbar on Jones.

Actually they did early on ... And hard !!! Remember Carlson was hyping him up
As "Vitor Gracie" and saying he won all theses championships in Brazil

Not overrated by sherdog and the majority of viewers. Maybe overrated in terms of belt, but its very possible he does a lot better in pure gi jiu-jutsu. I absolutely agree his bottom game is not MMA-grappling black belt level, aside from that one time he almost caught Jones in an armbar which he "admitted" (to quote a sherdogger) he only released because he thought Jones tapped
lol

Without TRT, his prime is over. His game is about timing, and his timing hasn't looked right since the second Hendo fight.

i think that's more of a statement of jones jits skills than vitor's though, i expected him to get taken down against both jacare and weidman but also alot more grappling exchanges but he just got dominated on the ground in both fights

Yeah the whole punching from the bottom thing is suspect, but to be fair Weidman and Jacare are really good on top. He did almost armbar Jones and did have a nice scramble vs Jacare as well.

Not at all. Jacare is one of the best grapplers that the sport has ever seen. If he had got tapped out by Andy Wang it would be a different story.

Hard to say. He's never used it extensively in fights. He got his belt along time ago and probably doesn't practice enough in the first place and it's very likely it was given to him for the very same reason Wanderlei got his, which was because they were extremely popular and good for advertisement.

Also he's fighting an active and one of the best ever world class BJJ champions.

Calling him 'Vitor Gracie' was just saying he was a legit blackbelt, it's not the same as comparing him to Roger Gracie now. Roger is the most decorated BJJ practitioner in the history of Worlds/Mundials. No one thinks that about Vitor, his BJJ is not overrated. Everyone thinks of him as a striker with a defensive blackbelt at best. And I'd say that's about right.

It used to be pretty good actually.

He had good results at ADCC and has the famous armbar against Jones.

He also arm barred Randy once where he might have finished it if they weren't covered in blood.

Bit it's issue isn't BJJ. It's age and TRT - he's old and TRTless.

Blaming this on BJJ, especially against freakin' Jacare, is silly.

"Never that good" statements are usually wrong anyway.

Nah back then saying u were a Gracie was literally the same thing as calling u a roger, ribero, or Garcia today... Remember Carlson was trying to get his own "Royce" into the ufc ... Hence "vitor Gracie"

Without TRT, Vitor does not belong with the top 5 of MW. He seems hesitant & intimidated against a charging Jacare.

Over rated? Under rated? I dunno.

"...its time to admit vitor's jiu jitsu was never that good."? No, not at all.
