Ryan Hall release statement after KO loss at UFC 264

Nothing personal against the dude but his fighting style is very unlikeable. I'd rather watch a lay n pray dude

Obviously he's a very good bjj player but he got KO'd on the ground with the first good punch that landed.

Is there a bigger one-trick-pony in the UFC?
He wasn’t a one-trick pony against Elkins. Might have shown more diversity in this fight as well had he not broken his hand.

Maia comes to mind as well. It was heartbreaking watching him spam the single leg with no success for his last fight.

Imagine age and athleticism plays a big role in their inability to score these takedowns but you would think grappling to the point of being a master, you would have at least a couple more different ways to try to get the fight to the mat.

Tough to watch.

Maia did it vs Anderson in his prime. Most pure BJJ guys are just bad at takedowns

He was perhaps one of the most overrated fighters on the roster, why anyone hyped this guy at all is beyond me.

- he had the worst ufc winning streak one could have, most guys past their prime. (Maynard, Penn, Elkins, Lobov)
- he hardly ever fight
- he has a stupid style that never gets to the top

Not trying to shit on BJJ because it’s obviously an effective martial art, but the way this guy applied it to mma.. made me happy to watch him get ktfo.

Jon Anik was in full deceptive shill mode when telling us that Hall’s winning streak dated back to 2015.
And when he comes back in five years, Jon Anik will tell us “Ryan Hall has not lost a fight since 2021”, instead of saying that he’s coming off a loss.
Anik will be wherever Goldy is by then

I like watching his fights and different approaches. One loss and the shitztorm starts? Brutal

Yeah, and it highlights the issues with BJJ competition where you really don't have to rely on takedowns to get to the mat for the most part.

Also, obligatory Cyborg/Schaub gif <45>

Careful @GreatSaintGuillotine says bjj guys have elite takedowns and train them regularly, they simply choose not to use them

I'll delete my account right now if you find a single post where I said all bjj guys have elite takedowns.

All major bjj gyms and competitors train takedowns. Thats a fact. Not everyone uses them in competition. That's common fucking sense to anyone who's trained a day of their life

Quote me directly next time pussy

what Punch he threw lmao

Topuria send him to shadow realm

all these annoyng Dark Souls Rolls.....but no RESPAWN THIS TIME!!!

Pulling guard doesn't necessarily negate the necessity of takedowns. Wrestling up from seated positions and guards are a big part of bjj. As well as faking guard pulls to initiate takedowns. It can add layers to how you initiate takedowns. On the flip side it can be an escape from the wrestling but it comes with the prerequisite of not having a shit guard.

Hear me out for a sec. I had a tournament of Saturday. Had 9 matches across 4 divisions (gi, no gi, and 2 open class). Out of my 9 opponents only 2 pulled guard right way. The vast majority of people in my division were actively going in for the takedown. When guard was pulled it was usually because neither could person keep their opponent down (even match on the feet).

There is an understanding of risk vs reward as well as time management. You want the takedown because you want the points and potentially dominant position. But you don't want to waste your whole time wrestling when you have other means to score and attack.

Within a week he will be released. Uncle Dana was waiting for this opportunity.

I genuinely don't understand why some sherdoggers hate him, he seems like the most laid back guy who's ever fought in a cage

I'll never understand why BJJ guys don't just train wrestling. What's the point of being great on the mat if you can't even take the fight there?
