Ryan Hall choked completely out. LOL

Its funny, i was looking for a good vid of this exact choke 2 days ago for another thread.
 
Whoever would have thought that Ryan's "Achilles Heel" would be being choked from inside his guard?
 
lol...i love this choke...i almost wait for the guillotine...
 
wtf. I've never seen that choke. What is it? The right arm is trapping one side of the neck, but how's pressure applied to the other?

Not sure what the choke from inside the guard is called but from sidemount its the von flue choke. Used that same choke last night, its great, prevents the guillotine nicely.

It's the Von Flue/custom shoulder choke, when done from side control (while in the guard, it just relieves pressure from the guillotine, prevents the finish from bottom, and facilitates the guard pass to side, where you can then proceed with the counter-choke.) Works with the same general principle as all the triangle chokes/arm triangles/kata gatames/brabo/d'arce/anaconda chokes. Valerie's right arm is pressuring Ryan's left carotid artery. Ryan's right shoulder is cutting off his right carotid artery. The thing that makes the shoulder (Von Flue) choke work is when a guy holds onto the guillotine even after you shoulder pressure him. If he would release the guilotine and bring his arm around to freedom, he would be safe from the choke. Obviously Ryan kept his arm in because he was demonstrating the guillotine for her to defend/counter.

The choke sometimes just goes from zero to choke-out very quickly. I put a guy to sleep with the shoulder choke from side control when I was demonstrating it. Was barely putting pressure on, and I was talking through the technique. Then I got up and my buddy was out!:eek:

We laughed about it after, but I felt a little bad.

I have never ever seen or heard or seen of this defense for the guillotine before. I cant wait to put my neck out there begging for the guillotine to be slapped on so I can try this. I wish I would have know this 2 years ago when I started I would have saved me weeks of pain from the guillotine.

Just be careful sticking your neck out there, if you dont get the arm over their shoulder quick enough and they sit back, it can be very difficult to execute the choke. Ie Your stuffed.

basic escape to guillotine choke ... Funny that some people never seen it :icon_neut
