Russia/Ukraine Megathread V6

Do you consider turkey to be truly European?

Yeah, always have considered them European to be honest.

I never considered Russia European, though, despite them having the same transcontinental status.

Europe is pretty inclusive of Turkey.

South Ossetia doing a referendum now to join the Russian Federation. PM of Georgia said we definitely won't open a second front. We fought russians in 2008 and had a thousand troubles, he said.

3% of their territory is. Other than that, Islam makes them other than European.

Over 15 million people live in that region that's more population than most european nations, Turkey is like Russia a country that is a bridge between Europe and Asia, except that in Turkey's case its literally.

As to religion, i thought that since Ataturk it has not been quite a political force in the country.

Turkey have a big problem with refugees. They have around 4 million syrians and overall near 6 million foreigners. In the beginning they said it was a transit country but now they want to stay and Turkey can't force them out. Mostly men gender too. I heard it has become popular to shoot tik tok videos somewhere anywhere in a party in Turkey and put the "I am the only Turk here" hashtag while a turk is dancing with many asian males in the background. Xenophobia certainly growing.

Putin media has even been slamming Putin poorly executed war in Ukraine and said the military cannot even get weapons, food and fuel sent to them from 40 miles away or something similar. Putin media has to admit somethings going wrong because I am sure a lot of Russians are wondering why this 4 day war going into it's what 5th or 6th week?

----

In the speech, Putin doubled down on the war, falsely claiming that Ukraine could have nuclear weapons and that the country is being led by neo-Nazis. The Russian president said the invasion was the "only right decision," claiming that the West was planning to invade Russia.

"The reaction of Mr. Putin and his speech was absolutely weak," Kasyanov said, adding that Putin was "already started to realize that he's losing this war."

----

"I'm sure he was misled," Kasyanov said, adding that Putin "believed that his army [was] in a great shape" and that the invasion would take very little time.

It all comes weeks after Russia retreated from Kyiv and refocused its energy in the eastern part of the country.

----

"Now we're coming to another stage — this competition of rivalry, of economic potentials, military potentials," he said, noting that the decision by western countries to send heavy weapons to Ukraine will give Kyiv "a decisive advantage" going forward.

----

Interesting words from the former Prime Minister.

If you doubt the actual words, he also spoke to CNN.

Even if Kasyanov is just a critic at this point, he's right. Putin's much feared Victory Day speech achieved nothing, he didn't even continue his campaign of fear.

Personally, as Russia's army fails and fails and fails, I think we're actually getting to the point of Russian defeat.

There are plenty on here who can't accept that Russia could possibly 'lose', but I think, in time, they will.

And, no nukes.

My social economic background? What exactly does that mean? Is that a hidden racial connotation? Does @Strychnine need to get involved for a possible 'yellow?' What does my socio-economic background have to do with anything?

Well, let's look at your spelling mate:
. realize, not realise
. apologize, not apologise
. improve, not imrpove
Maybe you should look up your tutor in Oxford, your English sucks.

Ummm... you do realise Americans spell things differently from the rest of English speakers?

I think you should apologise

Standard American and standard British English spell things differently. You have such a American centric view of the world . It's quite amazing .

I would feel tactics of conflict that is nearly 80 years old are a bit outdated considering 10 to 20 years can bring changes to battlefield.
For US Army Infantry soldiers, some things have not changed in 246 years. The basics remain the same.
Common Tasks Skill Level I (1985):
. Collect/Report information
. Estimate range
. Send a radio message
. Land navigation day/night (map and compass)
. Qualify with your assigned weapon (rifle)
. Move under direct fire
. React to indirect fire (artillery)
. First aid

Ranger Handbook (1992):
. Leadership principles (be, know, do)
. Operation order
. Fire support (call for fire)
. Patrols (day/night) :(
. Movement to contact
. Ambushes
. Battle drills
. First aid

* Ukrainians have fared much better at these tasks than the Russians. Shoot, move, and communicate. Keep it simple.

It's so fucking dumb that this whole time I've assumed Russia has simply been trolling us.

Now I'm seeing that they actually believed their stupid, paranoid, small council bullshit.

It really is the stupidest thing I've seen in international politics in my lifetime.

This is why Russia can't win. While they're burning through outdated and irreplaceable equipment Ukr is getting trained and supplied in superior stuff. Nevermind you'll not find examples of random Ukranians just wanting to go home sabotaging their means of war. Funny (not really) how miscalculated or misinformed Putin was as to how this was going to go down.

Doesnt help theyre defense industry is hella corrupts

They keep producing and updating shitty equipment and buying updated models of old aircraft.

Shit, the pak FA was suppose to replace the Su-35....and they keep proudcing it.

T-14 was suppose to replace the T-72 and T-90, and they keep producing it.

Theyre new communications equipment was out sourced
Ratnik gear appears to be poorly funded

this shit showed a tone of promise

like where is this stuff?

It is not about the gear mate.
Russian soldiers have no fighting spirit. I think the majority of Russian soldiers don't care about this war.
The Taliban had much less and fought much better (harder). Same for the North Vietnamese.
The heart and mind have to be in the fight or it will be lost.
Cus D'Amato, who trained Mike Tyson, had it right. Boxing is 75% mental and 25% physical. People think it is the other way around.

I don't get this argument, San Marino.

If I was a soldier in a warzone, I wouldn't care if I cared about the war or not, I'd care about getting out alive.

I'd care about my regiment getting out alive, and I'd care enough about living to do everything I possibly could to ensure I kept on living.

We know Ukrainians will annihilate Russian invaders, so if I was an invader, I wouldn't be half-assing it just because 'they're my brothers'.

No, I wouldn't commit an atrocity, I wouldn't shoot people for no reason, but I do accept the point that motivation is still a factor... weird, considering life and death is literally the only motivation needed.

100% this. I'd assume most soldiers care About their lives and the lives of their fellow soldiers

I assume the Russian people need to be assured that Russia is under threat because that “proves” that Russia is worthy of being a threat, and is thus a powerful nation of global consequence, and will be into the future.
