Russia/Ukraine Megathread V6

They have planes, drones, sea-to-air/land capabilities that have barely been used if at all
That's basically what Saddam was saying before the mother of all battles. Turned out to be bullshit. If Russia is not using whatever is at their disposal, it's because they can't for one reason or another. I mean, would you seriously have faith in a successful Russian amphibious landing at this point? Lol, I wouldn't. But the proof is in the pudding, Putin is in retreat in Kyiv and is desperately trying to find a way out with some kind of nominal victory. That tells you precisely where we are.

Russia have definitely been using drones, for at least the past week.

They have supposedly been reluctant to use planes as they haven't controlled much of the air space and have had several jets shot down.

Not seen much evidence for sea-to-air or sea-to-land though.

He's also wrong, Russia has used over 1,000 cruise missiles at least.

The problem is they suck and there are lots of them that don't explode or explode prematurely.

Majority of attacks on Western Ukraine have been from cruise missile strikes, both airborne and sea launched.

Military experts say more then 40% of Russian missiles have failed to operate.
That Russian ICBM fleet is pretty old also. Dating back to the 1950s. I doubt it has had any maintenance. I'll bet that more than 50% is not operational - both the missile and warhead.

Marines Barred From Traveling to Ukraine as Americans Try to Join Fight

"The U.S. Marine Corps issued an order through its Marine administrative message service stating that its personnel are prohibited from traveling to Ukraine and the neighboring countries of Belarus and Moldova. This appears to be the first order of its kind by a U.S. military branch amid Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.

Captain Ryan Bruce, a spokesperson for the Marine Corps, confirmed to Newsweek that the new order applies to all Marines, including its reservists. A later statement provided by Marine Corps Spokesperson Major Jim Stenger said the goal of this order was to communicate the State Department's March 8 message directly to Marines."

Russian steel giant on brink of debt default as sanctions hammer Moscow

"A major Russian steel company is on the verge of default after Citigroup froze its debt payment.

Severstal, the third-largest steel producer in Europe, was unable to fulfill a $12.6 million bond payment within a five-day grace period – despite having the funds to do so.

In a statement posted to the London Stock Exchange's website, Severstal said that Citigroup, acting as a correspondent bank of the loan issuer, has blocked the payment due to "regulatory investigations."

Russian steel go fuck yourself

Biden in Poland today telling troops they will see what conditions are like when they are in Ukraine. Whitehouse press has to come out right after to correct him. Absolutely embarassing. Just let this senile retard walk around and look and sound weak and feeble, just have his white house press team come out and basically confirm he is demented and doesn't know what he is saying.

Just like with saying they knew the sanctions won't work after saying they will for over a month. What a clown

It's over-simplification, actually.

Average Russians are like:

During Maidan events in 2014, western-backed neo-nazi junta had overthrown the lawfully elected president (him being a known arse) against the Ukrainian Constituion.

Sniper fire "puzzle":

"Mysterious" snipers coming out of the building:

Maidan events were pretty anti-Russian in itself, for some reason, with all that "they who don't jump are Moskals (Russians)", "hang the Moskals" and etc. mottos

Later, fire processions with well-known collaborant and nazi-supporter Stepan Bandera portraits and all other stuff:

So, back to Donbas. It's clear that separatist movement started by itself but was later supported\guided by Russia with "volunteers", volunteers, armaments and equipment. It's a known fact, with the full support of Russian citisens.

Summarizing, from an average Russian point of view, Ukrainian anti-terrorism operation, started in 2014 in Donbas area, and terrorising Donbas civilians for 8 years, just turned 180 degrees on February, 24 and came to Ukraine instead. Why? Because Kiev authorities declined Minsk Agreements and contniued to shell Donbas further, with no fucks given.

Nice job info spamming a bunch of obscure hot takes and run-of-the-mill propaganda pieces btw.

Damn, American tourist won't ever actually try local food, just pizza and burgers again and again....

Oh but but but they still have all of their super modern, awesome equipment in reserve. Yet we have Putin and Lavrov saying this war determines the fate of Russia.

Possibly one of the most epic self-owns in geopolitical history in 300 years.

Why Putin got it so wrong:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/03/24/putin-misjudged-west-ukraine-timothy-snyder/

Why did Putin get this so wrong? For an answer, I reached out to Timothy Snyder, who has written numerous books about Russia, Ukraine and the region. An edited and condensed version of our exchange follows.

Greg Sargent: What is it about Putin’s way of seeing the world, and his understanding of his own mythologies, that made it inevitable that he’d underestimate the Western response?

Timothy Snyder: For me the most revealing text here is the victory declaration, which the Russian press agency accidentally published on Feb. 26. What they say is that the West just basically needed one more push to fall into total disarray.

If you watch Jan. 6 clips over and over again, you can get that impression. The Russians really have been fixated on Jan. 6.

They thought a successful military operation in Ukraine would be that nudge: We’d feel helpless, we’d fall into conflict, it would help [Donald] Trump in the U.S., it would help populists around the world.

Sargent: When you say Russia has been making a lot of Jan. 6 — what do they read into it?

Snyder: Number one, they use it to mock us by saying, “These are just peaceful protesters.” Number two, they use it for one of their favorite arguments, which is that democracy is a joke everywhere.

But the deeper point is that Trump’s attempt to overthrow the election on Jan. 6 made the American system look fragile. They think, “One more Trump and the Americans are done.” In invading Ukraine, they think they’re putting huge pressure on the Biden administration. They’re going to make Biden look weak.

That probably was their deep fantasy about the West: Successful military occupation in Ukraine; the Biden administration is totally impotent; we humiliate them; Trump comes back; this is a big strategic victory for us.

...
Timothy Snyder is one of many people who I simply disagree with but acknowledge he has some expertise, so I’ve listened to him because I think listening to opposing viewpoints is important.

I can now officially say I will never read or watch anything by him again.

Yeah, i get that. He seems like he may be biased but I think he does make an inescapable point which is that America appeared divided with a weak president and thought he could take advantage of that.

He is beyond biased, he doesn’t even believe that America is a democracy. And the Ukrainian invasion had a lot of factors going into it, European disunity probably had much, much, much more to factor in than a divided US and the fact that nobody expected much Ukrainian resistance.

He’s a guy living on permanent TDS mode and FWIW, I don’t believe I have ever used the term TDS on here or ever accused anyone of having it but he’s it. But if the shoe fits…
