I've been hearing China is the next big thing, just about to overtake the US any day now, for the last 20 years.
Meanwhile they seem kind of fixed in second place.
Their soft power seems to be decreasing, their neighbours are waking up to the threat and are taking appropriate action. and the 1-child policy is seemingly about to wreak havoc on the demographic front.
Budget wise, alot (More than half if i recall correctly, cant find the source atm) of their defense budget is actually spent on their internal security, not the "real" military.

Russia backed a puppet leader in Yanukovych who ran on a policy of further Westernization of Ukraine. He got voted in on a platform of improving relations with Europe and the west. He won on a platform of further Westernization and voiced his support for joining the EU.

Ukrainians want to become westernized. They want to get rid of the corruption. They want to have entrenched democratic systems of government. They want to have freedom of expression. They do not want to become a kleptocracy. They don't want their freedom stolen, their resources stolen. They want to improve their life. You know, like most people.

The look to the east and they see the shit hole known as Russia. They look to the West and they see Europe and they decided let's become more like Europe and less like Russia.

Unfortunately they had elected a puppet. A lying, stupid, evil, thieving sack of shit who would put his own interests ahead of the people he was elected to represent.

Because it comes with some pretty fucking sweet perks. Democratic Westernization doesn't pay you like Putin will.

So he pulled out the piece of shit playbook and slowly started eroding the checks and balances in an attempt (largely successful) to centralize power.

He incarcerated political opponents like Yulia Tymoshenko who was his main opponent in the 2012 election and others.

During his elected tenure he decreased their Freedom of Press Index rating from 89th to 126th. This resulted in their rating decreasing from noticeable problems to difficult situation.

He engaged in cronyism, corruption, he funneled funds to the east, he wound back electoral voting oversight measures implemented by his predecessor.

And he somehow managed to find himself with a whole bunch of money in the process. $75 million dollar house filled with 100k chandeliers. Private Zoo, Shooting range, Golf course, bowling alley, 35 cars, 7 motorbikes.

You know, average totally not corrupt or in anybodies pocket stuff. Not at all the kind of stuff you see dictators buying themself. Private zoos are pretty standard for public servants and correct me if I'm wrong but there has never been a dictator with a private zoo in all of history.


But the people allowed all that because humans are apathetic with important issues like not enough rights for the trannies... or too many rights for the trannies.


But there's limits. He was not a dictator yet, the processes of Westernization was already in place and the free trade deal with the EU was inevitable.

So Putin instituted a "trade war" to try to stop it.

And this is where "he" fucked up, "he decided" to avert the "trade war" and a week before the summit by pulling out of the free trade deal with the second largest economy in the world and instead strengthen ties fucking Russia.



And Ukrainians blew their fucking lid. Rightfully so. You don't turn down a free trade deal with the second largest economy in the world and chose Russia instead. Nobody bar @ferrisjso is stupid enough to buy that.

With the cat out of the bag and unable to deal with mass protests in conventional measures like... backing down to the will of the people. He went full authoritarian. Signed some draconian laws and eventually started shooting protestors before his piece of shit ass was kicked out.


Then puppet master Putin not getting what he wants decided to annex Crimea and "separatists" from the east tried to take the donbas. When that wasn't going well these "separatists" miraculously obtained a bunch of high end Russian equipment and soldiers.

He had some success but ultimately failed and upon not getting his way he looked at us and our decade + colossal fuckup known as "The War On Terrorism" and said "these opulent self entitled fucks...I don't think they have the stomach for this right now"
