This is the same stuff russia had used in Chechnya, also in Ukraine since 2014.
First APFSDS rounds with depleted uranium core USSR had produced in serial batch form in 1982 th and better model upgrade since 1984 th.
In 1985 th Gorbachev approved these to be part of mainstream production.
They weren't exported when USSR existed but later....God Knows.
Iraq had tanks ammo from 1970 ies early design. They even didn't had soviet tungsten alloy coated with marg steel alloys cap ammunition ....
Plus DU ammunition is rated too highly if compare with ammo with tungsten alloys and marg steel alloys coating. Yeah, in some cases it might have 10-20% higher penteration in the same obstacles.
While for APFSDS dart speed heavily impacts also precision, not only penteration capability.
The main benefit to use DU core in darts is... for countries doing uranium enrichment DU is at least cheap feedstock if compare with complicated alloys requiring very high manufacturing standards and " cap " layers to manufacture in multiple micro layers is slow and expensive process.
DU is lesser dangerous for health than natural urainium ore pieces with 0.71 -0.72 % U235.
DU does have 0.1-0.35 % U235.

I mean the sickos on this thread who believe that Putin has the right to this action are nuts. The the billions on Putin side being spent to muddy up anyone supporting Ukraine is nuts too. We are talking according to CivDev who own website gets slammed by a barrage everyday slamming his support of Ukraine where he gets zero dollars from training Ukrainian soldiers and he states a sizable amount he says he hears 15 to 25 dollars per post by pro Putin people. Remember Elon Musk who once said of Putin's wealth is many times larger then his wealth currently at 233 billion and at the time he was asked it was 312 billion. Putin can finance this KGB style information war with what is in his pocket he spent decades stealing from Russians. What kind of wealth we talking about Elon in one year net worth jumped over 100 billion that is 273,972,602 a day and 11 million a hour. Putin has well over that number could finance 1,000's of trolls with stuff that fell out of his pocket.
So called tanks active protection systems are in reality helpless vs both: APSFDS " darts " and " dummy " artillery shells.
They are too fast for dream systems to deal with.
For slower stuff like RPG rounds and slow cummulative rounds they might be effective.
The effect of reactive armour vs simple artillery shells and more or less modern " darts " is overrated marketing plot...a bit they does work , yeah.
While these are excellent against cheapest and most widely available single stage cummulative charges.
Some reactive armour also does have some capacity to reduce double stage cummulative charge effect.

It's crazy what he is worth, I guess he has basically been taking a cut in Russian oil for the last 20 years. Imagine if he put that money back in the country for his own people. He could/should help finance the war out of his own pocket but who knows with his level of madness if he would let it collapse first.

I'm in reality sceptical about Ukr counter offensive.
1. West didn't had supplied Ukraine enough and with supplied stuff in BEST case is enough to prepare to defend vs next russian attack. Nothing more btw.
2. Russia had a lot of time and sadly also funds and manpower to use really impressive resources to build fortifications.
While Ukr mainly yet didn't had penterated first 0 line in reality.
+ Russia does have damn a lot of ammunition etc produced in USSR era cos USSR was real wartime economy should collapse in long peace time.
