When they cast Brie I thought. “ Unathletic, extremely dull actress terrible choice”. I couldn’t have been more right. She is dull and has no muscle tone. Feige is very much for the female empowerment, minority empowerment angle. He’s very progressive.

Pearlmutter seemed to be against any female superheroes believing they wouldn't make money at the box office but he started to lose influence years ago and was given the chop entirely from the Marvel films in what 2014? I think as Feige gained more control you see more female characters become involved but because they were tied into the larger stories involving multiple characters you didnt get a "stand alone" female led film(no Ironman films after 2013 either). Warners pushed Wonderwoman hard in that respect and Marvel got a good deal of criticism which wasn't IMHO really deserved.

I wouldn't be supprised if Disney put pressure on Feige to both come out with a female lead film ASAP and to make that character very much a "strong female character" which tends to mean very powerful and morally flawless. The end result though was I think quite a dull and not very likable character, someone like Stark wasnt interesting and likeble purely because he was very competen and morally correct but because he was flawed.

The ironic thing is that films with "Strong female leads" actually often end up being about male characters, the Starwars sequels for example end up being about Kylo Ren and Han/Luke because Rey simply isnt that interesting. Rogue One on the other hand is much more about Jyn because it allows her some faults and room to grow dramatically. In Captain Marvel I think the same ended up being true with Fury and the Skrull leader taking alot of the focus.

The comic character is much better than the movie, and the comic character wasn’t even worthy of a solo movie to begin with. To then cast an actress with near zero charisma ...

Ms.Marvel isn't a very interesting character in the first place. She is like Hulk in that regard. Brie can act though. I think she likely is going to get replaced because she isn't vested in doing 5 more movies based on her acting interest. Each movie is like 4 months of your time. So six movies is like doing Ms.Marvel for almost 3 years. After phase 1 of the Avengers, nearly every actor has said they were done playing that role.

superheroes are thought of as a tribute to genetic perfection.
superheroes are not a reflection of every joe and Nancy walking about, that is pure narcissism to want that.
nobody would want to be like a superhero if they were some fat balding dude with a comic book collection or some fat spinster with blm tshirt. that is the opposite of exciting.
so yeah, you will have super hunks and supermodels as superheroes for the foreseeable future, cause it's the right way, thankfully.

Yeah I wouldnt disagree with that, superheros generally have always tended to be very idealized and the MCU has always tended to go with that, Helmsworth, Evans, Pratt and Holland most obviously are pretty clearly played to female/gay fans not too differently from say Johansson or Olsen to male/lesbian fans, good looking, idealised bodies in tight outfits.

The biggest issue with Capt Marvel for me is the writting but you could argue I spose Larson doesnt have the charisma of some of the other MCU castings? People like Downey Jnr, Johansson, Evans and Helmsworth did arguebly carry their characters though some not always great writing by bringing enough charisma to the role.

Phase 1 ended in 2012.......they all continued for another 7 years, at least.

Brie Larsen isn't unathletic or ugly. No, she's not genetically perfect; neither is Chadwick Boseman or many other male Marvel super heroes. The way you're talking about women is both unrealistic and harmful.

I think more Marvel movies, each movie is 9 months of your life: 3 months to "look the part", 3 months of filming, 3 months of press work. If you are someone that wants to branch out and do a variety of work, it may be hard to keep that schedule for 5 different movies.
