He trained with Neil Melanson, Blackzilian's grappling coach. He's a big dude
    [IMG]
Melanson, who has helped such luminaries as Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort, Michael Chandler and Dominick Cruz over the years, said the idea to come to the Blackzilians mostly stemmed from when he was called in to help Anthony Johnson prepare for his UFC light heavyweight title shot against Daniel Cormier. But the submission wizard didn’t have enough time with “Rumble” and, he says, it showed in Johnson’s performance at UFC 187 in May.

Also mark 1:20 on the video and listen this Joe Rogan story, crazy

His defensive grappling has improved over the years. Not by leaps and bounds but it's gotten better.

LOL its not about he weight of the people you roll with but their technique.

If weight of partners determined how good you were at grappling Rumble would never get subbed since he is always rolling 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 with HW's:

Maybe some posters didn't understand what i said. Rumble improved his grappling, that's all. He's not at Marcus Buchecha, Rodolfo Vieira or Rousimar Palhares level, guys. That's fuckin obvious

Those guys you highlighted aren't know as sub artists, but they don't really get submitted themselves. I think the focus would be on wrestling and getting back to the feet instead of ADCCing it with a life long BJJ practitioner.

Rumble is first and foremost a wrestler.

    Phil Davis wrestleraped Glover.

Rumble stuffed all of Davis's TDA and make him pay for each attempt for 15 minutes.

Rumble only has bad cardio when he blows his tank trying to annihilate someone and they happen to survive. On DC has survived since he left WW. The ref saved Vitor with a questionable stand up.

His grappling should be improving greatly under Neil. Iirc they didn't have him until a week before DC/Johnson. Anyways, Rumble via first round KO.
