Royce Gracie isn't a Top 10 MMA Fighter from 1993-2000.

Please if anything Royce is only useful for 2 reasons.
1. To explain why Ronda was winning against cans, he's just an example. Ronda winning is like Royce at UFC 1, how many times have we all used that?
2. His lol worthy Losses.
He came out of "retirement" cuz he was too afraid to loose since he got a draw from Shamrock, to avenge his brothers loss to Sakuraba. But of course only under those special "Gracie" shitty conditions they love to place in Japan to try to get any edge they can.

Sakuraba don't care, and he gifts us w/ performances like this

He lost, then he went and faced "some white guy" who beat him, and that got him even more mad and EMO, he's like a child, so what does he do? He shoots up, yup, turns to roids and slaps on 13lbs of muscle overnight.

The only time the family name Gracie should be brought up, is to highlight the awesome that is Sakuraba.

I agree with you and made this statement a few months back!
BUT however, if there were weight divisions with no time limits back then, he would have ruled welterweight or middleweight and been the champ
BUT
With today's entire rules and regulations, he would not be a top 10 fighter. Every ref would stand him up for stalling. His heel strikes from the guard does not classify as remaining active.

Anyone know if his fight vs. "The World's Most Dangerous Man" (With a record of 26-16) will have special rules?
#1 Will he be allowed to wear the gi?
#2 Will there be time limits?
#3 Can Kenneth wear his old school Asics?
#4 Will it be a judged fight or is going to the end considered a draw?
#5 Are they meeting at a catchweight or is Ken allowed to come in at 225lbs?

I think not, old Pancrase rules were too silly to be considered as MMA. I mean, no ground and pound? No closed fist strikes to the face? Escape submissions by holding the ropes?
I'm not even talking about the fixed matches. Nah it was too WWElite to be taken seriously.

I agree with this. There were a lot of Pancrase fights that were said to be fixed, and the rules were absolutely ridiculous. Implement a solid set of rules that plays more faithful to actual MMA and I think a LOT of those fights have COMPLETELY different outcomes.

Royce was most definitely a top 10 guy, IMPO.

I may be wrong but Royce never claimed to be the best. He always said Rickson and his brothers would toy with him in training. he was there to prove the effectiveness of his family's martial art Gracie Jiu jitsu. which he did. Royce never really "cross trained" MMA. He was trying to prove a point. So ya the fighters u named would probably beat him. But he was a PIONEER. He stuck with his bread n butter Jiu-Jitsu so u can't really compare them. If u think beating Dan Severn, a 250 lb greco roman monster by a little jiu jitsu guy is "overrated" then u've probably never grappled before. <--- this last sentence is directed to the second poster

Man. I just don't know why people work so hard to discredit Royce. What he did in the first UFC is really one of the most underrated sports achievements ever.

Royce is on the Mount Rushmore of Mma and he is the only person who you can't make an argument against him being there.

You are trying too hard to look like an asshole. I'm pretty sure i can dig up some gifs of Sakuraba being beat up silly by average fighters.

He is not an MMA fighter at all the only reason he won back in the day is because nobody knew or how to stop BJJ. The first MMA fight where he faced another guy who knew BJJ AMERICAN WRESTLING, he was made a fool of By a man Named Matt Hughes.

Fixed for Matt Hughes approval

Half the Sherdog'rs were putting their sister's cabbage patch dolls in rear naked chokes when Gracie was fighting.

The steroid thing made him look a bit silly, as the whole Gracie thing was about a smaller person using technique to beat the opponent.
Still respect the dude for doing well in no holds barred, beating bigger and more than one opponent an evening.

And frankly, I find it odd that people widely consider him the #1 guy from the early days of MMA. His record simply doesn't reflect that "fact", especially when compared to his contemporaries. These are all wins from 1990-2000, and everyone had to debut before 1995.

He simply doesn't stack up.

You criticize Royce's top five wins (if those are indeed agreed upon as his top five), but:

Two of the men he defeated, you put in your actual top ten of the entire era...

You list Ryushi Yanagisawa but none of his top five wins are in your own top ten list and the same goes for Pele.

The records are way off and wrong. Off the top, Frank Shamrock never beat Bas and Pele got destroyed by Chuck.

Actually he had already fought Sakuraba 2x before he fought Hughes
