I get it's scripted entertainment. But man it annoys me when it doesn't make sense. Can someone shed some light on these facts from last night? Maybe I'm just over thinking things:

1) Has the Rumble always been no DQ? It seems absolutely absurd to me that people can roll out of the ring and hide (like Rusev last year) or get stretchered out and then come running back in 30 minutes later.

2) In extension of the no DQ question how is it legal for eliminated members to come back in and throw out Lesnar for Bray? And if that makes sense, and is allowed, then why wouldn't the Wyatt family have just stayed in the damn ring and thrown everyone else out together?

3) And if that makes sense then why wouldn't Reigns have run back into the ring to help his boy Ambrose throw HHH out? How does any of this make sense?

This years Rumble was the worst offender I can ever remember of having so many stupid spots that hurt the match. Wyatts jumping Brock, LoN jumping Roman, Miz sitting out then getting in (why does anyone get in?), Big E saving Kofi.

It all made the match pointless and stupid.

R Truth was fucking hilarious though.

That's pretty much what I felt the whole time too. Why is anyone getting in? Why aren't all the heels hiding under the ring?

The Rumble was always my favorite event growing up. But this one was just stupid from beginning to end.

Sounds like you don't "get" it?

I do get it. But to me it's no different than being mad when I pay for a movie that was written poorly or badly produced. I expect my "entertainment" to be entertaining. Last night really wasn't.

1) It's always been No DQ, check out the "Hardcore Rumble" of 2001.

2) Because it's No DQ. And they'd have been removed by force if they stayed in.

3) Simple Pro Wrestling psychology, The Wyatt Family are heels, so they're "supposed" to cheat. If Roman helps Dean wins, you make HHH the babyface in the story, because he was screwed over.

You must think it's a simple task writing weekly shows and monthly PPVs.

What's funny is you'll be glued to your set tonight for RAW...despite all your moaning and groaning

1) It has always been no DQ. Remember, it's a battle royal match and the only way to "lose" is to get thrown over the top rope. You can do whatever you want.

2. Refer to #1. Only way to lose a battle royal match is to get tossed over the top rope. That's the ONLY RULE. Watch the RR '96 match. Jerry Lawler comes out as the #3 or #4 entrant and he gets out and hides under the ring for 30+ minutes. Shawn Michaels finds him, pulls him out, tosses him in the ring so he can toss him over the top rope. It's an awesome strategy and a great way to get a chicken heel over...especially if said heel wins the entire thing. Imagine one of the New Day guys doing this, hiding under the ring and then when there is only one guy left, he comes in and tosses him over and wins? GOLD

3. I would agree with you here. Even if they both toss HHH out, I don't think that would make the fans boo, they'd cheer that HHH was tossed out and then Reigns and Ambrose could fight it out for the title. Only conflict, or two, are: He's the IC champ. And secondly, it's scripted for HHH to win so it doesn't make sense for him to get tossed out.

Lastly, I haven't watched the entire thing but watched 30 mins of it. HHH winning is beyond ridiculous and he needs to stop but I guess that sets up what appears to be HHH vs Reigns at Mania with Reigns winning.

I remember back in 1996 (I think) Vader got eliminated, then came back in and threw people out (including HBK if memory serves) but none of those eliminations counted because Vader had been eliminated. Contrast that with Hogan assisting Flair in eliminating Sid back in 1992. In this case, didn't Bray take part in Brock's elimination with the other Wyatts?

I said the same thing wondering why they didn't just stay out there the whole time. Would have made sense for Brock to go after them on the outside and security/officials come out and escort them all to the back.

Also, as someone mentioned in the play-by-play thread, I think there used to be a rule that you had to get in the ring before the next guy came out. I think they mentioned it first in a really old Rumble when someone didn't come out at all. When the next guy came out they announced that the no-show was officially eliminated. So Miz should have slid in and slid right back out before going on commentary. I actually was expecting an announcement that he had been eliminated when the next guy got in the ring. Would have been a funny moment for Miz to freak out because he didn't know the rules.

Oh well.

Was 96 the same year Lawler hopped on one foot around the ring to avoid being eliminated?

Thanks for the replies. Makes more sense. I still don't like it though.

Rumor mill says a big surprise on Raw tonight that was supposed to go down last night.

Then you have 2002 when Austin laid everybody out with a chair after he was eliminated. He didn't eliminate anybody, but still.

DRH, that is another classic heel Lawler moment. That wasn't at an actual Royal Rumble but during one of the Battle Royals on Superstar if I'm not mistaken. It definitely wasn't the '96 RR since I remember Bret Hart coming out and forcing Lawler to put his other foot down by kicking it. I'll find it since you mentioned it, it was one of my favorite Lawler moments.

Also, regarding Reigns getting his ass kicked, leaving, and coming back later, they did that with Austin in 1999. He entered at Number 1, Vince entered at number 2. The Corporation attack Austin and send him to the hospital, then Austin came back towards the end.

That's a pretty big difference, though. In theory you can't stop a wrestler from attacking someone, at least not until you get security or whatever out there. But you can say any eliminations are disallowed.

They did almost everything re: Reigns with Austin back then. :)
