It's uncertain what has made Conor McGregor tweet retirement, but we know that fighters like him and Ronda Rousey deal with a lot of pressure from the media, the fans and themselves. It is people like Rafael dos Anjos that know what it is like to be defeated at the highest level, but actually posesses the grit and determination to press on. http://vendettafighter.com/pressures-hype-fame/

Dos Anjos can't even comprehend the kind of attention and pressure Conor and Ronda faced. I have no idea why his name is even brought up if you're going to go that route.

more like some fighters actually make 7 figures now and suddenly realize they have options.

you pay guys 40/40 and they will fight forever, treading water in the middle class.

Looking at it like that, what Mayweather did was pretty ridiculous. Different breed of fighter.

Well, he was about to dethrone the great Irish hype, but he broke his foot. That would have boosted his fame up of course. Read of where it says opposite path and that might clarify the point of it where he was not brought up in the UFC by hype. The pressure is always there, he is a champion.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda, but DIDNT! Just cause Nate beat Conor doesn't mean RDA would've. Anything can happen on fight night.

Comparing RDA to Conor and Ronda is silly, but whatever.

It's true. Jones is another good example. It's a crazy sport.

20 years undefeated, 10 of those years having people hoping to see you get killed in the ring. Different kind of pressure than having the whole world behind you like Conor had.

I really feel there might be a lesson to be learned here. The UFC is becoming bigger than ever, and in terms of media ubiquity and name recognition, Rousey and McGregor were shaping up to be bigger than anybody that came before. And along with that came more and more media obligations and constant intrusion into their lives.

Maybe the UFC needs to learn how to manage superstars properly.

boxing is by far my fav sport by a long shot

It's much easier to lose in mma than in boxing, there are so many different factors involved.

mayweather also picked a lot of his opponents wisely, and avoided a lot of fighter in their prime.

don't get me wrong tho mayweather is an amazing fighter.

I read up where it says opposite path, but not brought up in hype by UFC point is not clarified.

He only started picking his own fights after he had gone 10 years dominating 2 divisions though. And not earning anything near what McGregor is getting paid.

his win over corrales was great.

His first win over Castillo tho was extra suspect.

he ducked a prime cotto and waited till he was brutally beaten by Margarito, and pac man to fight him. He ducked margarito. He wanted no parts of Paul Williams

then he took a bunch of bullshit fights vs maidana, guerrero, márquez, berto

Mayweather is an amazing boxer, but its not like he went the hopkins or ward route and took on all comers.

People laughed at GSP when he used to talk about the mental pressure

who is laughing now ?

I gotta agree with this...the dude flies under the radar when it's not presser/media time.

JBJ should be included in this cast, though. No excuse for his actions, but throwing so much at a 20-something year old is never a good thing.

When Mayweather and Cotto were both under Top Rank, Bob Arum refused to let Cotto anywhere near Floyd. He said he wasn't ready for Mayweather. As soon as Cotto left TR, the fight was made.
Williams lost to Quintana and when Floyd cam out of retirement, he left welterweight. Margaritio shouldn't be mentioned since he is a dirty cheat who got sparked by Mosley when he didn't have his plaster. The same Mosley that Floyd beat after.

Ronda is a legit fighter, she's probably the best BW in the UFC history. The media hypes her, she's not good at talking. Conor is just a great weight cutter, full camp mini Mendes, Edgar and Aldo with gameplan can beat him at 145. Once he faced a man of his size, he got exposed. He hypes himself up, and some less intelligent people believe in his shit

ronda and conor are bullies, not fighters. they head for the hills as soon as adversity hits them in the face.

bob didnt want them to fight when they were under his roof. Mayweather left top rank in 2006, cotto by 2007 was looking for the maywether fight.

mayweathr never would have taken a fight vs paul williams even if he did beat quintana.

Margaritio might be a dirty cheat, but that doesn't change the fact that the fight should have happend before Mosley vs Margaritio.
