After his devastating loss to Robbie, he should not been put in there with another striking killer who was on a 7 fight win streak. 2 devastating losses back to back like that can ruin a guys mentality and Rory is such a promising young talent. The UFC needs to stop doing this to their fighters if they want to build stars. It's incredibly short sighted. Guys need some confidence building fights after bad losses. These immediate championship rematches are apart of this problem too. 2 back to back losses against a current champion and that guy is fucked.

Bullshit, MacDonald is a top 5 WW. He should get a top fighter, even after sitting on the sidelines for 11 months. He was headlining in his home country for crying out loud!

Sorry, but this is a game of king of the hill.

Keep advancing to get that guy off the top, or get pushed aside.

Should've made MacDonald/Woodley 2 just for the hilarity of it.

I didnt like thia matchup either. Both guys are top prospects. Why not mix in condit and hendricks. Instead of sacrificing one of the two young studs.

Matching up a guy who just fought for the title and loss in devasting fashion against a guy who just destroyed the guy who beat the champ and is on a 7 fight win streak makes no sense as it is. That being said, I can't wait for Wonderboy vs Robbie. Holy shit that fight makes my dick hard.

He was ranked number one, makes no sense fighting anyone outside of top 5. Dont forget the UFC rankings are based on contendership status, he's either challenging the title soon or he won't, we found out the answer tonight.

I see no problems here.

Matching the #1 ranked contender against the #2 contender makes no sense?

No that makes the best sense.

Maybe because Rory wanted more money to resign and had one fight left on his contract

Funny how rankings only mean something when someone wants to make a point. Guys need tune up fights every once in a while. It's good for their psyche and for the continuation of their career. It's a smart long term strategy to get the most potential out of a fighter. Boxing does this but to the extreme. The UFC hardly does this at all for their guys. There needs to be a little more middle ground but no where near as much as boxing.

What's better for your confidence than beating one of the top guys?

If you can't, oh well. Regroup, recover and try again against the next guy.

Honestly I think he was given this fight just because he was trying to fight out his contract. Big risk, big reward but he lost out.

He's a grown ass man. If he didn't want the Wonderboy fight, I'm sure someone else would have taken it. If his team didn't think he was up to it, they wouldn't have let him sign for the fight. It's not like he's in a shit camp where they'll let the promoter throw guys to the dogs when they're injured or not ready.

The back office booked this fight to punish Rory over speaking up on his pay and fighting out his contract.

Simple as that. He fought a guy on a 7 fight win streak who is wheel-kick KO'ing guys, despite Rory coming off a TKO loss.

It's a bummer but that is how Zuffa does business, and we may end up seeing Rory in Bellatore despite being a career company man.

Rory isn't a prospect anymore. He's been a top 10 welterweight now for the better part of the last 5 years.

You can't deny the mental effect of a bad loss in a fighter. It can make them not fight to the best of their abilities and create a spiral effect if they keep losing. It makes no sense to put guys down that spiral purposefully. It's bad for the fighter and bad for business long term. Why do you think boxing doesn't do that to their guys?

I agree TS.
1 year lay off shoulda gotten a tune up fight.

But it is what it is.

I will enjoy watching Rory in Bellator.

lol at people who want to play it safe with fighters careers. They seem to be more keen on playing armchair coach and business manager than watching the best fighters meet in high stakes matches.
