Joe Rogan on one of the telecast even said his potential was greater than that of GSP which sounded ridiculous even with all of his potential. But sadly he didn’t reach his potential. That fight with Robbie was sort of the beginning of the downward spiral.

I do think GSP for a time genuinely thought he was going to hand the mantle off to Rory.

It made sense, he was the right age. Had the right style, was training with GSP, was winning the right fights.. That Robbie fight tho.. His nose was shattered and breaks easily now even after surgeries. The mousasi fight was hard to watch for me.

I agree in part, but it should always be remembered (though it is not) that he had done more than enough to win that fight, and a facial injury that would have turned into a deformity had he absorbed another blow to his nose caused that 5th round TKO. He could have literally ran around the cage for the entire 5th round and at worst gotten a draw. He also was only 25 years old, no where near his physical prime.

It probably is for the best he wins the upcoming PFL and retires with his mental faculties. He is still young enough that he could hypothetically resign with the UFC a year from now and contend.

I wish he still had the same fire and wasn't as injured as he was circa 2013-2014'ish.

That Rory would be champion in the UFC/Bellator today.

Self-promotion and being a social media star is not an easy thing. It consumes time and energy, it's a job in itself. The Logan and Jake Pauls of the world, that is their top priority, that is all they do.

The vast majority of world class fighters got into MMA for the training and the competition - not the social media bullshit. The day-to-day life of a disciplined athlete is boring. That is why they are world class.

Stipe doesn't even like doing regular media, let alone his own media.

Aljo has a channel also. I mentioned him being a sherdogger years ago and he responded back.

So does Dennis Bermudez, Joe Lauzon, Jens Pulver, even Sakuraba.

None of it is particularly interesting or compelling. These are fighters, not media personalities. They just don't have the time or ability to make content on the level of social media professionals.

The one exception I've found is Stephen Thompson, who is quite a pro YouTuber.
