Rory MacDonald explains controversial comments about Robbie Lawler, performance-enhancing drug use

They stood out because they had Robbie wobbled and almost finished

I stand by my point. If he had hit like that consistently, each such blow would be less memorable individually.

Someone beats you twice (one of those wins was a finish) it must be Less. It can't be because the fighter is better than you. Nah, he gotta be on something. Take your Ls like a man, doo.

If Rory had won he wouldn't be saying a fucking thing.

Win - split decision against Condit
Loss - first round KO by Woodley
Win - Unanimous decision against Cerrone

Not that impressive.
2-1 during the USADA "era.
Not to mention he has had 39 fights, is 35 years old and he's been fighting professional since he was 19. God forbid a man with that much time in the fight game begins to slow down.

Young Robbie. In the prime of his natural life.

vs old man Robbie when his body should be showing signs of age...

That first pic is just a photo shoot where as the 2nd one is him winning a fight so naturally he is going to look more ripped as he has adrenaline pumping through him. Not a good argument.

It is very suspicious, the guy was 19-9 before his second UFC stint and somehow he has an amazing career resurgence when he's over 30 knocking everybody senseless.
Maybe he just learned how to stop a takedown

Unfortunately for you, you have nothing but suspicion. Lawler beat Rory twice. Neither time did he fail a test. He has been monitored and tested by USADA and has never tested positive by them or anyone else. Nothing subjective about that. Bro.

Why would it be unfortunate for me? I have no dog in this fight and Robbie is one of the most entertaining welterweights in the division.

I don't live vicariously through MMA though. It's just a sport I enjoy watching. I am not emotionally connected to any of these fighters. Considering Robbie turned in multiple suspicious test results, and seemed to have an obvious drop in performance post USADA, I don't think its inappropriate for Rory, or any fighter, to point that out.

I don't like people throwing the whole steroid "excuse" around but in this case it doesn't seem like Rory is upset and he didn't call Robbie out. He was asked a question and answered it. He could have taken the PC approach and say he had no comment but Rory seems like the type of guy to be a pretty straight shooter and not hold back.

Condit outstruck lawler 176-92 significant strikes
Woodley was the first to KO Lawler since 2004
Cerrone is a former LW who moved up and got KO/TKO'd in his previous fight by Masvidal in the 2nd round

Sorry, it just doesn't look that good since USADA. And I am a Lawler fan.

Doesn't he train with GSP? Lol?!?!

Edit: if he really was "totally not crying about it" he would have answered the question with a "I'm not sure" (even if he was).

The thing is his honest answer isn't "I'm not sure". His honest answer is he truly beleives Lawler was on something. He's not saying "I know for a fact he was". He's just saying that in his opinion Lawler was on something.

Lawler has made a habit of purposely slowing down in the middle of all these 5 rounders. He slows down to the point that he is practically giving away rounds, but those breaks give him a chance to finish stronger. Lawler has been incredibly durable throughout his career, too. Him surviving MacDonald's assaults and returning fire isn't surprising if you factor Lawler's mid rounds strategy, his career long durability, and MacDonald's lack of stopping power.

That being said, no one should be surprised when any fighter tests positive for enhancements. ANY fighter.

Angling for the trilogy match. Smart move, this Rory guy.
