Ronda Rousey failed hard in WWE

She was super over when she first went jumped on the scene...

Problem is, halfway through, Lynch introduced her “The Man” character and the fans ate it up...

There was a point where Lynch was the most over wrestler in the WWE, from both the men and women...

The fans all wanted Lynch to have the belt and turned on Rousey because of it. I think she was confused, since she was so embraced by the fans in the beginning, and she was technically still babyface when they turned on her.
It was a similar thing with UFC as far as the fans.... most of us liked her at first, but she slowly exposed herself more and more as an unlikeable person so when she lost, got a tidal wave of shit.. which she has clearly still not recovered from.

She actually did great. Her first (tag) match was at WrestleMania and she had a match where she mostly wrestled with Stephanie McMahon, who could never wrestle, and made Stephanie look good.

Rousey did very well for herself, and Shayna Baszler picked up where Ronda left, maybe being a bit more MMA-oriented with a mouth guard and submission holds. Rousey could return in the future as a top heel, maybe after Shayna becomes a top face and wins the title. Rousey could do a surprise turn on her and set up a feud. Or maybe Ronda really is this spoiled and bitter, which would be stupid but funny.

I had a feeling she would rage-quit WWE eventually. <Lmaoo>

I don’t think she’s officially done...

Supposedly the WWE’s deal with Fox happened, partly, because Ronda was on the roster and Fox felt she would attract a lot of viewers.

Plus, Baszler, Duke, and the other Horsewoman are still part of the WWE, so I’m sure a “Horsewomen vs Horsewomen” dream match is still in the making for the future...

On the one hand I would say that it sounds like that was a promo and she was going to return as a heel. on the other, to so blatantly call it "fake fighting" seems a little over the line even by today's standards. if those are her real feelings, she just shows how mentally weak she is. Funny thing is her song is "Don't give a damn about my reputation," when I do not know of anyone past or present who cares any more about their reputation than she does. she has the thinnest skin ever

I don't follow any of her shit, but I was surprised the fans were so receptive to her when she first went over. Obviously the WWE fans gave her a chance and were excited that she crossed over, but they got to know her like we got to know her and realized she was a cunt. She didn't like that one bit and even though she could have played it up and been a good heel, she took it personal as only she can and made it weird. She made her money... Retire on your ranch and stay the fuck out of hte public life.. You can't handle it, and nobody wants to see it after they get to know you. Bye Ronda.

For sure. I’d argue a top heel is worth more, although Vince has always had this “babyface as top dog” philosophy that’s kind of different. Hogan, Cena, and even SCSA although he was a different kind of babyface. Other wrestling promotions historically had a heel champion, with a babyface chasing it. Like Ric Flair in the 80s. I think that works better booking-wise.
From a business perspective I have to disagree. People aren't buying memorabilia, shirts, etc for heel champs. They're showing up to watch him lose. Baby faces sell merchandise and get sponsorship exposure like crazy that a heel would never get.

Also somewhere in the mid to late 90s the babyfaces and heels kinda merged together to make the antihero category. NWO, DX, the Rock, stone cold I say were all antiheroes. WCW invented NWO to be heels but the fans loved them. Just an example.

True...

But instead of the fans turning on her because of her personality, they turned on her because of their love for Lynch.

The heel makes the babyface though. Austin def caught on after the “Austin 3:16” promo, but it was the Mr. McMahon character that really made it catch fire (as well as the Rock). Hogan was popular, but it was Piper, and Andre that really sold it. Here’s what I mean about it making more sense from a booking perspective.

In the 80s, Hogan was WWF champ. And they had to push bigger, badder heels for him to conquer. Piper, Bundy. The Andre match was the pinnacle (I saw WM3 on closed circuit TV as a kid, was awesome). You can’t get any bigger and badder a heel to conquer than Andre the Giant, and Hulkamania started its downward spiral after that. What do you do with these heels once they’ve been cleanly beaten that way?
Now, with a heel champ like Flair, he wins by cheating and cutting corners. It’s easy to build babyface to chase him, and they’re not damaged much when they lose, because Flair typically cheats. When wrestlers work a match, why is it the heel that calls the match? Because it’s the heel that makes the babyface. It’s the heel’s job to get them over.

The fans resented her because she was given too many opportunities and jumped the line. You could see it progressing. Otherwise, she was pretty well liked for the first few months

I didn't get into wrestling until mid 90s. DX and Stone Cold vs Hart foundation was probably the first match I watched. Pre Montreal screwjob. Sting vs NWO was probably the first storyline I followed.

Not really. Sounds like she's a top heel. A top heel is almost worth as much as a top babyface.

It wouldn’t be surprising if she was planning to come back as a heel...

Especially since the other horsewomen are heeling as well.

It really wouldn’t make sense if she came back as a babyface again while Baszler is currently the top female heel in the WWE.

I got into it when I was about 8, in mid-1986. The first storyline I remember was Andre the Giant’s suspension, I think.
My mom took me to see WM3 on closed circuit TV; younger ppl don’t know what it’s like to see an event that way. It was at Phoenix Civic Plaza, and there’s a giant screen, but it has the feel of a live sports event. You feel like you’re there live, but you’re not. PPV existed but wasn’t very widespread yet.
Savage-Steamboat at WM3 is a classic match, and I can tell you that we all knew we were seeing a classic. Every person in the place was on their feet, and I remember having to climb up and stand up on my folding chair on my tippy-toes to try and see over top of the adults :D People were booing, cheering, gasping at every near pinfall. When Steamboat won, the place erupted. Crazy shit.

It would go a long way for Rousey if she would get that growth on her face removed.

Naw. Just think of it as her face being ribbed for your pleasure. :D

If you get things handed to you people resent you. Even the Rock who was as over as any baby face in the history of pro wrestling got resented, after he was spending more time making movies than actually wrestling. The fans really started to give him shit.
