ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (First Reactions)

I love the scenery they've used in the trailers. The shot with all of the Stormtroopers coming up on the beach through the surf looks absolutely sick. I didn't realize that this wasn't the sequel to The Force Awakens. This is a standalone film that starts right before A New Hope right? I'm guessing this is the story for how Princess Leia got the battle plans that wound up in R2D2.

Anyways, I'm really excited that they are making so many new Star Wars films, I think they have something crazy like 9 different films in the making right now. It's such a cool universe, and I'm glad they are expanding the films to show how large the universe actually is. It's weird how they are going across galaxies and show the same 20 people everywhere. It makes it feel really small.

The CGI looks pretty decent, although I wish they would go back to real models. Something just feels missing from film when they use too much CGI.

In the blood of his enemies

It wouldn't be as cool as it sounds. I can just imagine some assistant taking his withered, stumpy body and putting it into one of those baby tubs and awkwardly giving him a wash.

Right, but, a dozen or so of those and that attack on Hoth looks like it would have gone quite a bit differently. Just keeping those forward guns off target would allow a speeder to tie up dem legs. Also ya gotta wonder how much better they would have done on Endor with a few of those blasting the AT ST's.

In this movie, it looks like rebels are just starting to defect from the empire, probably taking a lot of supplies with them. I'm willing to believe that by the time we get to ESB, the rebellion has exhausted a lot of those early-gained resources.

I agree it's kind of hand wavy but not entirely out of bounds imo.

until now? What are you talking about? Is one of the guys in the trailer supposed to be Thrawn?

Also these are not at-ats these are at-acts which are all terrain armored cargo transport. So they may not be as combat capable...or its just for effect you know like once the Walker gets tripped up it gets destroyed easily or when Luke destroyed one after crashing.

Yeah that's fair I suppose. Your and Millinar's posts made sense. I just hope it does get explained, I hate when prequels create continuity errors.

Awesome trailer. They run into the same problems all prequels run into though. They have bazookas they use against the AT AT's?

Where were those on Hoth?

Good point. I wonder why they even bother to target the cockpit though. It would stand to reason that the cockpit would be one of the most armored parts of the AT-AT. I Would think they would target the flimsy-looking ankles with explosives of some kind. Take out just one leg and the entire vehicle is disabled.

Thrawn is supposed to be in the new season of Star Wars Rebels, so he is now part of the newly-established canon. It's kind of an odd situation though, since the bulk of his story was set after ROTJ. I guess fans liked his character so much Disney execs decided to pluck him out of the defunct EU and re-insert him into the new continuity, albeit earlier in the timeline.

I actually hope Hayden Christensen plays Vader. Give him another crack at it under a new director.

They don't appear to have much in the way of range. The rebel soldiers would have had to run out over an open snow covered field, get into position and shoot at the AT-ATs

The rebels where sent to sneak in to plant some demolition charges on an enemy structure after trekking through a dense forest. Why would they have brought anti-tank weapons for that? If they got into any kind of firefight that would require that kind of weaponry, even if they did better in the fight the mission would have already been lost.

I don't deserve that. Go finger George Lucas instead. Now I really hope he's in it.

He isn't. James Earl Jones is of course doing the voice. The suit is worn by Spencer Wilding, an ex-professional heavyweight Boxer from Wales.

And for even mentioning...that name, you deserve to be hit with teh Ban Hammer:)

Mounting one on a speeder seems reasonable. And, on Hoth, they were literally firing hand blasters along a snow trench at AT-ATs and ATST's.

And re: Jedi, the mission actually wasn't lost when they got into a fight like that, and, it was a final, last ditch, desperate effort. Not bringing a few bazookas (if you have them) would be really, really stupid. Treking through a forrest or not.

Meh I think it would be cool. Lucas ruined his character and Star Wars... like i said, give him another go under a new director and he might be awesome.... but full dark Vader would be great obviously.

I don't see how. Jones is doing the voice, so all you really need is huge guy in the armour. If he can do the fight scenes, that's a bonus. Hayden is way to small.
