Here's the thing... I agreed initially. More ppl would be in their right weight class, they'd have more energy. I even though hell make them weight in the hour of or right before they step in.

Here's the thing...
It's completely wrong and unsound. It's surprising someone knowledgeable like Rogan would even suggest it.
Here's the thing... athletes needs to be energized the day of the fight.
That means when they're fighting they need to eat and drink all they can all day and night.

Eating and drinking adds weight... and they would not be able to make the cut.

Furthermore, making it the day of, would give them less time to re-energize and get their nutrients back. Instead of 24hrs, they'd only have 8 or so hours and would be even more fatigued.

And they could not do it right before the fight because then they'd have to starve themselves and not eat and drink all day to make the weight, otherwise the food would put them over the weight.

Im surprised Rogan came up with this because it goes against decades of sports training.

...They wouldn't be so fatigued and exhausted if they'd stop trying to cut eleven thousand pounds to make the weight class... the whole point is to implement this so people will just fight at their normal weight. Quit being a dumb idiot-ana jones.

Same day weigh ins are not safe for those cutting weight. If you do that it would force fighters to fight at their natural weight or suffer through less then optimum performance conditions.

People will always cut as much as possible, no real way to control it

Das d point, bish

Why not force the fighter to drink a glass of water every 2 hours the day of the weigh in? I'd voto for that.

Ban dehydration!
Urine tests at the same time as weigh ins would solve this problem, and already has done in ONE championship.

They won't cut as much but guys will still try to cut as much as they think they can and still function
And they should let them if they want to! I say make the weigh-ins an hour before the fight. :D :D :D :D :D :D

All it would take would be a few fights where one person stuck to the old weight cut routine and one just fought "naturally" to see the obvious advantages of not cutting. People would fall in soon enough when they realise how detrimental it is to cut

Not many wrestlers in this thread i guess. After a few events when all of the big cutters got a taste of fighting and feeling the affects of their cut, there would be shifts in weight classes, other fighters would start their cuts much further out, and overall the average water cut would be way less.

how about: guys step on the scale before entering the cage. if they are more than X% over the contracted weight, AND are heavier than their opponent by more than Y%, they give Z% of purse to opponent.

example:

X = 5%, absolute threshold
Y = 2%, comparative threshold
Z = 20%, purse penalty

cormier and jones both make weight at 205 lbs. cormier weights 225 on fight night and jones weighs 217.

cormier is about 10% overweight
jones is a little more than 5% overweight
therefore, both fighers exceed the weight cutting threshold

cormier is also almost 4% heavier than jones, so he exceeds the 2% comparative threshold which is activated if both fighters exceed the overweight threshold.

result is cormier gives 20% of his purse to jones but the fight is still sanctioned and is a go.

probably the biggest potential problem with this is the efforts that some guys will go through to avoid putting weight back on before the fight, which could harm performance. but hopefully it would just cause guys to go up in weight or manage their weight better.

Yeah ok, good luck trying to make everyone comply.

How are you gonna police everyone ? It'd just lead to crazier cuts... you're never going to make guys stop trying to pack in a few extra pounds for more pounding pwr.

And the fighters know this, which is why they wouldn't cut as much as they used to.

They won't have a choice... that's the beauty of it. Either change dat fackin' diet and stay at that lower weight year 'round, or suffer the cut attempt and have a chit fight...

Maybe but I think then they'd starve themselves all day, to make the weight, not drink and then chug a gallon or two of water or protein powder/supplements as soon as tey stepped in the octagon and between rounds (can't prevent them from drinking in the ring) and prolly puke in the ring.

Believe it or not, you're about 5-10 lbs (more for hws) heavier at the end of the day, especially if you're an athlete drinking water all day.

It'd be even more drastic.
